The Spotlight on The Cambie Hostel Seymour

Heritage Charm Meets Downtown Energy

Modern, social, and budget-savvy – The Cambie Hostel Seymour is a 120-year-old heritage building in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Just a short walk from major concert venues like BC Place and Rogers Arena, this hostel blends old-school character with a vibrant backpacker vibe. With shared facilities, a full communal kitchen, and a cozy lounge, it's the kind of place where you’ll meet fellow travelers before heading out to the show.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’re less than a mile from Vancouver’s biggest arenas, so no need to stress about late-night transport. Granville SkyTrain station is just a 5-minute walk away, making late returns easy and affordable. The hostel’s lively on-site bar offers weekend entertainment and a fun pre- or post-show scene. While it's on the social side, the rooms are located above the bar for a bit of separation when you're ready to crash after the encore.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends on a budget looking for a fun base
- Solo travelers catching a dream gig and hoping to meet new people
- Couples making a weekend getaway out of it
- Fans needing a friendly but quiet-ish space to rest after a show
- Budget-conscious music lovers who’d rather spend on tickets than beds

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Cambie Pub serves up local craft beers and classic pub fare, and guests get a 20% discount on meals and drinks. While there’s no room service, the hostel’s shared kitchen and dining space is a great perk for late-night snacks or pre-concert meals. You’ll also find plenty of downtown eateries just steps away, including options that stay open late. Breakfast isn’t served on-site, but nearby cafes open early enough for a post-gig recovery coffee.

Nightlife Options

The Cambie Pub is known for its weekend entertainment and local live music, making it a great pre-game spot. Plus, you’re walking distance to Granville Street’s buzzing bar and club scene. Whether you're looking for a chill nightcap or a full-on afterparty, it’s all just around the corner.

What People Say

Guests highlight the amazing location, especially for walking to concerts and catching the SkyTrain. The pub gets plenty of love for its atmosphere and good value. Reviews also praise the friendly vibe, with many mentioning it's a great place to meet fellow travelers. The free WiFi and full kitchen are also appreciated perks.

Areas for Improvement

This is a hostel, so expect shared bathrooms and a bit of noise, especially on weekends. Rooms are basic but clean. If you're a light sleeper or looking for luxury, this may not be your jam—but it’s part of the charm for those who love a dynamic, low-frills experience.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers who want to stay close to the action without breaking the bank, The Cambie Hostel Seymour offers unbeatable location, local vibes, and wallet-friendly fun.

Excellent!

Liked: Staff is awesome!
Disliked: I saw a staff member throwing away in the kitchen sink a huge amount of dish soap just because it didn’t fit the detergent bottle in the sink he was refilling; such a waste and awful for the environment.

BEDBUGS, MICE, CONTAMINATION, UNSANITARY

Disliked: Infested with bedbugs and loud AF until midnight. I can forgive the noise for the price, but the sanitation makes this place unsuitable for human habitation. You'll see reviews almost 10 years into the past with previous bedbug issues, and I'm sad to report as of 2025, they continue to be infested. The top sheets look clean, but you will not be able to see the bedbugs until it's too late. They do not fully strip the mattresses, and keep perpetual linen wrappings on them unchanged. We saw mice scampering the kitchen as well. I've been bitten by their bedbugs and will now have to try to decontaminate or risk spreading to my own home. Not to mention the possibility of disease transmission. When confronted with the bedbug infestation, the manager Jose offered a 25CAD gift card for Malone's a bar next door that they shill a lot. Jose made no attempt to address the actual problem, no promises of applying pest control measures, no suitable remedies for the situation. 10 years of this and it's no wonder they still have mice and bedbugs. The rooms are also unbearably hot with no AC. Again that can be forgiven for the price but the infestation, risk of disease, contamination and danger to the general Vancouver population is unacceptable. For your peace of mind, stay anywhere else.

We enjoyed this Hostel and...

Liked: Room was small but clean. Bed was comfortable. Good kitchen and eating area. We felt secure. Close to convention centre and Rogers Arena. Lots of restaurants close by. Two blocks from bus to Horseshoe Bay Ferry.
Disliked: Small room. Needs a small end table for technology and such. Had to leave door ajar to cross vent room to sleep.
