The Spotlight on The Buckingham Hotel

Sky-High Comfort in the Heart of Chicago

Modern and intimate, The Buckingham Hotel is a hidden gem located on the 40th floor of the iconic Chicago Stock Exchange building. This boutique hotel offers sweeping city views and a peaceful, tucked-away vibe—right in the center of Chicago’s bustling Financial District. With sleek rooms featuring streaming TVs, mini-bars, and comfy seating areas, it’s the perfect place to recharge between adventures in the city.

Just steps from the Willis Tower and State Street shopping, and within a mile of Grant Park and the Art Institute, this hotel puts you within easy reach of some of Chicago’s top music venues and attractions.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’re just a short walk or quick rideshare from major venues and late-night hotspots. The elevated location means less street noise—ideal for post-show recovery. With a 2:00 PM check-in, you can settle in before heading out, and while check-out is at 11:00 AM, the staff are friendly about storing bags if you're catching a later train or flight. Quiet, clean, and central—it’s a smart choice for music lovers who want comfort without chaos.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a stylish crash pad close to the action
  • Solo travelers heading to that once-in-a-lifetime show
  • Couples making a weekend of it with music, museums, and meals
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space with skyline views
  • Budget-conscious concert-goers who still want boutique vibes

Food and Drink Options

While there's no on-site restaurant, you’re just steps away from some of Chicago’s best eats—think deep-dish pizza joints, upscale bistros, and fast late-night bites. The in-room mini-bar and tea/coffee-making facilities are great for winding down after a high-energy night. There’s no 24/7 room service, but breakfast spots are within easy walking distance for those late sleep-ins.

Nightlife Options

From jazz clubs to rooftop lounges, the surrounding area has plenty to offer once the encore ends. You’re close to some of Chicago’s best bars and live music hangouts—and when you're ready to call it a night, the hotel’s high-rise seclusion offers a peaceful escape from the buzz.

What People Say

Guests rave about the incredible skyline views, spacious rooms, and the unique experience of staying inside a historic skyscraper. Many highlight how surprisingly quiet and peaceful it is, despite being right in the thick of downtown. Reviewers also appreciate the friendly staff and overall cleanliness.

Areas for Improvement

Because it’s located inside a working office building, the entrance can be a bit tricky to find at first—but once you’re in, it’s all smooth sailing. Some guests mention that the decor is a little traditional, but the comfort and location more than make up for it.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers who want a stylish, quiet stay with easy access to downtown Chicago’s music scene, The Buckingham Hotel hits all the right notes.

Liked: The view was the best part And I liked the access to the guest lounge even though the coffee and “breakfast” was mediocre.
Disliked: decor was austere and the “minibar” silly. Coffee could have been better and the ultra processed food breakfast.

Great Hotel to Enjoy the...

Liked: Brilliant location, with a breathtaking view of Chicago's most iconic skyscrapers — and as a bonus, a perfect angle on the "Batman" building (the Board of Trade). The room was spacious and exceptionally clean — probably one of the cleanest hotels we’ve stayed at in the U.S. No stains on the sheets, no crumbs, nothing unpleasant. The bathroom was spotless too.Continental breakfast was included, and honestly, it wasn’t bad at all. We usually had oats, coffee, and some pastries. The staff was polite and professional, and the beds were very comfortable.
Disliked: Not much to complain about, but a few small things:First — the parking. While we were driving up from Florida, we weren’t sure if the hotel had parking at all or if we could even stop to unload our bags. It was a bit confusing. My wife ended up using SpotHero and booked a space in the building’s underground garage — which turned out to be cheaper and more convenient than going through the front desk.Another odd issue — the elevator system. As others have mentioned, to get from the parking garage to your room, you have to take three different elevators. A bit of a hassle with luggage.Lastly, the security/card access system is not very intuitive. There are gates before the elevators, and if you don’t scan your access card just right, an alarm goes off. You also have to carry two separate cards — one for the gate and one for your room.It all seems to be a result of the building originally being designed for offices, not a hotel.

will not return, not worth...

Liked: location
Disliked: desk staff was absent so had to go back several times, they had no normal television, only streaming that you had to sign into, so couldn't get the news. and the worst is they put a hold on my credit card, when I called twice to ask to have it removed, manager was rude said it was the credit card company. It was not, called them as well it was never removed, having to wait the 30 days for it to fall off. Given that the cost was 50percent higher than other hotels locally, but chosen because my meeting was in the building, expected better for a 400 one night stay. The room was just average.

Great stay at The Buckinghaml

Liked: The front desk personnel were extremely helpful upon our arrival at 9 p.m. when we called.saying we couldn't find the hotel entrance. Hint: Follow the white lighted patio area from the Taureax Restaurant until you reach the horse sculpture. Our room was large, clean, fresh, and comfortable. Slept great. The virew from the 40th floor was fantastic. We could see both the sunrise and fireworks at the Navy Pier. Great stay! We would definitely return.
Disliked: A welcome addition to breakfast would be more fresh fruit and plain Greek yogurt in addition to the many sugary choices (and stevia packets too). :)
