The Spotlight on The Bowl Inn

Relaxed Country Comfort Just a Short Drive from Kent’s Live Music Scene

Modern convenience meets countryside charm at The Bowl Inn, a traditional British pub with rooms nestled in the village of Charing. With its peaceful setting, free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and hearty breakfasts, this cozy bed and breakfast is a perfect base for concert-goers looking to combine a music-filled night with a restful stay. Located just 7.8 miles from Leeds Castle and around 15 miles from Canterbury, it’s ideally placed to access Kent’s top music venues while enjoying a slower pace between shows.

Why Concert-goers love it

If you’re catching a gig in Maidstone, Ashford, or Canterbury, The Bowl Inn puts you within easy driving distance—without the chaos of city traffic or noise. Fans love the peaceful setting, ideal for winding down after a loud night. With free on-site parking and a later check-in time of 16:00, it’s easy to arrive post-soundcheck and settle in. The pub downstairs makes it simple to grab a drink or meal without straying far from your room.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a chill countryside weekend with a show on the side
  • Solo travelers ticking off a bucket-list concert
  • Couples making the most of a music-and-getaway combo
  • Fans wanting peace and quiet after a loud night of live music
  • Budget-conscious music lovers seeking value without sacrificing comfort

Food and Drink Options

Start your day right with a full English, continental, or vegetarian breakfast—perfect for those mornings after a late night out. The on-site pub serves classic British cuisine, and there’s a bar for casual drinks. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the restaurant offers comforting meals and there's plenty of nearby countryside pubs for a post-show bite.

Nightlife Options

While The Bowl Inn itself is more about quiet vibes than thumping beats, you’re not far from vibrant nightlife in Canterbury or Ashford. For live music lovers, some local pubs nearby often host acoustic sets and open-mic nights. The on-site bar serves local ales and wines—ideal for a relaxed nightcap.

What People Say

Guests frequently praise the friendly staff, immaculate rooms, and superb breakfast. Many note the comfortable beds and peaceful surroundings as major highlights. It’s often described as a “hidden gem” and “perfect for a quiet getaway.”

Areas for Improvement

Though most guests love the countryside location, those without a car may find it less convenient for late-night returns from a concert. Also, while the rooms are cozy, they might not suit those seeking ultra-modern design. But for most, the charm far outweighs these minor factors.

The Bottom Line

If you're after a relaxing stay with great food and a quiet vibe after your concert, The Bowl Inn hits all the right notes.

Nice Place, Friendly Staff, Shame...

Liked: The room was very nice with a large extremely comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and breakfast was cooked perfectly. A nice place to stay as it was very quiet when the pub closed and the view was pleasant.
Disliked: Unfortunately there was no water, either hot or cold, so we were unable to make use of the lovely bath or shower. Apparently not the fault of the Inn but no compensation was offered for the fact we were paying a premium price at £170.The balcony was dirty and had not been cleaned for a very long time, with many cobwebs and bird fowl everywhere. One of the bed pillows was stained. The tea and coffee facilities were Ok but with only one ordinary milk portion.

Disliked: The toilet. Toilet seat was only half on and you cannot flush the toilet properly.

Wonderful stay in a gem.

Liked: Absolute gem of an inn a little off the beaten track. A beautiful old charming building with large car park with large outside catering area. Inside is mix of old-world charm and a modern twist which works very well. We had a booked a balcony room overlooking fields and countryside, good choice. Can’t fault the room which exceptional. Beautifully furnished exposed beamed room which made the bed look 4 postered with a stylish bathroom with all the usual facilities you could want. The bed was very comfortable for a good night sleep. The Bar is nicely laid out and tastefully decorated. The night we stayed there was mix of guests and locals who were all very friendly. There is an expansive dining area which again is charming. We dined at the Inn, and the food was excellent, well cooked and presented. The menu was thoughtful with a great selection of starters and mains for every taste. Local produce was on offer, and our choices were perfect for us. In the morning the breakfast was pure quality again a good choice was available. What really was particularly excellent was the staff. Busy, helpful, engaging, knowledgeable and were genuinely interested in their customers. From reception to checkout and everything in between. As regular hotel and Inn users we cannot stress how much the staff added to experience. Wished we were staying longer and now trying to think of a good reason to go back sooner. I bet the Bowl Inn is wonderful at Christmas. I do write reviews not all of them good and sometimes good hotels leave me a bit stuck what to say. This is exceptional.
Disliked: OK this isn't a "didn't like" this is an observation and hopefully helpful. DO NOT follow your Sat Nav. The surrounding roads are very narrow and bendy to say the least. Make sure your Sat Nav brings you to the Inn along Bowl Road The Hart Hill approach is dreadful. Bowl Rd is off the A252 Charring Hill road. Its quicker, shorter, wider and has regular pull ins . Don't be put off as the drive is so well worth while.

Perfect in every way, and...

Liked: The location was perfect, so quiet yet easily accessible to the local area. The room was just gorgeous and the staff were exceptional throughout the whole stay. Would definitely recommend.
Disliked: The bed was just a little hard, however we appreciate that's more about our bodies needing softness than a direct reflection on the stay!

Liked: The very pleasant and helpful bar and restaurant staff. The quality of the food.
Disliked: Some tables tops in the restaurant were sticky. Not through neglect by the restaurant staff but by the type of varnish applied.Otherwise faultless.

Overall a lovely stay. I...

Liked: The team were so friendly, very helpful and nothing was too much for them. We stayed in a twin room, which was very comfortable and had everything we needed in it. Good tea tray with bottled water, biscuits and a variety of beverages topped up every day. We stayed for 3 nights and ate in the restaurant the first night and had Pizza from The Shack on the last night, both were excellent. The breakfast menu has so much choice, much more than I have ever seen in a small establishment, and very good quality products. My granddaughters choice was not listed as a specific menu option however they happily provided her with her with what she asked for.
Disliked: Nothing about the property, or our stay, as everything was great. However if travelling east bound to The Bowl I would recommend driving a bit further to the roundabout and accessing via Bowl Road and not Hartwell Hill as the roads are so narrow and the drive along Bowl Road is flatter with more pull in points.
