Not great

Liked: Room was good size, breakfast lovely. Bed OK - small double.
Disliked: There was an emergency light in the room (5) was on all night very bright - lit up all the room and couldn't be turned off. Didn't sleep well at all because of it.

Enjoyable Stay at The Blue...

Liked: It's a great pub and hotel. Steve the duty manager was very helpful and swopped our room due to accessibility issue with room 5 and was given room 1 which was the family room which was larger and extremely quiet considering that it was at the front of the building which had a bus stop outside. Both dinner and breakfast was ok.
Disliked: We had a couple of issues with the room. 1. Struggling with door lock for room 1, sometimes door didn't unlock. Also there is a large gap under the door letting in light from the hallway.2. No instructions with the TV so had to get Steve to show us how the remote worked as it's more like a fire stick remote than a normal TV one.3. The bathroom needed a bit of TLCa) crack and chips in wash basinb) paintwork wornc) skirting board between door and bath falling off4. Clear description on where to park. There's a all day section of the council carpark which is behind the shopping area but you have to go to Zone G which is about a 10 min walk to the hotel. These are only small negative that can be addressed.

Excellent Breakfast with a Mediocre...

Liked: Regular readers of my reviews (do they exist?) will know I hold great stock by shower and bed. Well the bed was soft, more than I would have liked, but not so soft that my back was affected, so that was ok (just). The shower was glorious: a large shower area with a glass wall and a shower head that, though unmovable, produced enough water to provide a lovely relaxing shower. I had work to do in the room, so was very grateful for an adequate desk and chair that was a good height. This is getting rare these days, so full marks for that. The staff were all without exception very friendly and helpful. And the breakfast was sumptuous - definitely book with breakfast, it is worth it: a great variety to choose from, fresh croissants and portions that keep you going till the evening. The cappucino was also good and creamy.
Disliked: I guess the main drawback was the approach to the rooms: you have to go past the public toilets which stink of cleaning products like most public loos do, and that's not great for a relaxing holiday. Once in the room or out of the hotel, it's no problem. The room had obviously been recently refurbished, but a lot of the fittings were broken or loose (e.g. the headboard lights threatened to fall on us during the night). Not a big deal, but a shame. The loo and bathroom sink were obviously installed for hobbits, as they were both so low, if I were a decade older I might never have been able to get off the loo again! None of these were deal breakers or spoiled our stay in a huge way, but all little things that could be done better.Due to the hotel being directly on the high street (and apparently the rougher end), we were disturbed in the night by drunken shouts on the Friday night.

No worth the price

Disliked: The decor had scuff marks all over the walls, damp marks in the bathroom, no seal on the shower screen so the floor got soaked. Toilet was horrendous, needs a deep clean. Temperature of the room was way too hot, tried turning radiators down. Lack of car parking, I was sent around the houses by the staff on the phone.
