The Black Lion Royal Hotel

Exceptional

Disliked: They need to put grab handles in the shower it is very dangerous without something to hold on to. Apart from that, the hotel and the staff were great.

Bad start, but good outcome.

Liked: Good base for a few days whilst we explored this part of Wales. Plenty of parking behind the hotel which was free if staying at the Black Lion. Staff were excellent. All very friendly, hard working and approachable. Shout out in particular to Amely and the chef Henry. Evening meal and breakfast plentiful and good value.
Disliked: There was a mix up with our room. We had booked a family room (3 of us) but when we looked at it it was only a double room. It soon became clear there wasn't a room big enough for us. We waited nearly 2 hours to be be given a room probably more suited to 2 people but they managed to squeeze in a camp bed for our 7 year old. To be fair to the management, they were very apologetic and gave us a free drink whilst we waited and then gave us free breakfast for our 2 mornings there.

Liked: Location right in the heart of Lampeter
Disliked: Chimes from clock on the building opposite went all through the night and ruined my sleep

Liked: We always stay in the Black Lion when we visit mid Wales. It’s central, comfortable and good value for money

Good location, decent stay.

Liked: Super convenient location. They accommodated us when we requested to change rooms (there was a lot of mould and was in front of an active building site). Second room was nice and cosy. Staff were helpful. Cleaned daily. Right across from the main bus stop. Downstairs doesn’t get too rowdy.
Disliked: It’s older than pictured, so naturally a lot of stains around on carpets, walls, mouldy tiles etc. Although breakfast was included the first day I was told none of the cooked food was included (and there were just a few pieces of white bread and corn flakes), second day I was told one of the cooked items were included, another day I came down at the time I said I’d be down and they closed breakfast service early. Just depended how motivated the staff were, but they were hospitable when asked.
