Liked: Close to the centre, quiet area, nice garden area.
Disliked: Self check in, no staff available after 11am until next morning. No heating or hot water in room on first night. So cold couldn?t sleep. Staff came in at 7am and we could hear them talking and laughing in the kitchen next door to our room. so got woken up early on a weekend away! because of Covid, staff have been cut right back so the cleaner was having to run around doing breakfast and sorting out problems. she was very helpful and sorted heating and hot water for our room. The room didn?t get cleaned, beds weren?t made- for the price of the room I would have expected this. Breakfast was potentially very good but stale granola, not enough staff to clean and clear tables or restock cups cutlery etc made the whole process tedious. Not sure what the answer is as I think ordinarily this is probably a good place to stay fora city break. Clearly Covid has left this place understaffed and overpriced.

Perfect 3 nights stay
Liked: The Black Horse Inn is located on a quiet road, in the middle of the town. Local shops, buses, train, pubs and visiting points are all within walking area, which is a real bonus for ever so busy Canterbury. Our room was on the 1st floor, facing a bucolic little garden, we didn't hear any noises. Rooms are well equipped, spacious and clean. Check in and check out was simple. The staff are absolutely lovely, the manager looked so well after us, and she provided us with extra homemade cakes ? you have a multiple choice for breakfast, but you need to be up as at 10am the service finishes ( which is standard for every hotel).Lovely place, lovely people and I couldn't recommend it more. Top notch!!!

Liked: I had a room at the top of the building via a winding staricase & was glad I did not have much luggage. The space was small & confining but not uncomfortable. However, the entry system is quirky & without a smart phone, impossible to negotiate as there is very often no attendant on duty, perhaps because with only 15 or so rooms. There is someone a block or so away who arrived shortly after a phone call to let me in the building.
Disliked: The breakfast was nice & more than sufficient even though I did not order the full English Breakfast. The Black Horse is a small lodging down a side street but with a reasonably good location. However, finding the place for the first time after dark would not be all that easy.

Lovely quiet pit stop in...
Liked: The breakfast was generous and cooked fresh to order, with continental options available too.Bed was very comfy, towels clean and fluffy! Room had double doors that opened out to the garden, but was still very private (secure walled garden with no rear access). Absolutely silent whilst I was sleeping. Thanks for a lovely stay!
Disliked: I was travelling alone so didn?t really bother me but FYI for others: my room was small. It?s a historic building though, I?m from Kent so I know what to expect but for International travellers just bear in mind all the buildings are small here in the UK ;)
