The Spotlight on The Berkeley Square Hotel Bristol

Stylish, artsy hotel near Bristol’s buzzing music scene

Located in the heart of Clifton—a creative, leafy part of Bristol—The Berkeley Square Hotel Bristol combines boutique charm with a bohemian vibe. This 4-star hotel is just a short walk from some of the city’s best live music venues, as well as cultural landmarks like the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. Think cozy rooms with thoughtful extras like homemade biscuits, fresh fruit, and complimentary tea and coffee, all wrapped up in a hotel that celebrates Bristol’s artistic energy.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel hits the sweet spot for music lovers. It’s just minutes from central Bristol's top venues, and once the show’s over, you’ll appreciate the peaceful Clifton location for winding down. The 24-hour reception, late-night bar, and easy access to public transport make post-concert logistics a breeze. If you're staying in one of the suites, they're located just around the corner, giving you a little extra privacy after a lively night out.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking to explore Bristol’s nightlife and music scene
  • Solo travelers catching a bucket-list gig
  • Couples making a romantic weekend of live music and city exploring
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space—Clifton is peaceful at night
  • Budget-conscious music fans who still want style and comfort

Food and Drink Options

After the encore, head back to the hotel’s own award-winning restaurant The Square, or slip into the speakeasy-style cocktail bar with a hidden garden terrace. Late-night cravings? The bar stays open for hotel guests and there are plenty of walkable eateries nearby. Breakfast is available and perfect for sleeping in a little after a late night out.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel doesn’t host live music itself, its location places you within easy reach of bars, clubs, and lounges in central Bristol. The hotel’s cocktail bar is a great pre- or post-show hangout, serving up craft drinks in a laid-back setting.

What People Say

Guests love the characterful decor, the friendly staff, and the hotel’s unique vibe. Many reviews highlight the excellent location for both sightseeing and nightlife, and the bonus touches in the rooms—like fresh fruit and homemade biscuits—score lots of praise. The hotel’s cocktail bar gets top marks for atmosphere.

Areas for Improvement

If you’re staying in a suite, note that they’re located just around the corner from the main hotel, which may not suit everyone. Also, while the boutique feel is a big part of its charm, the rooms may be on the cozier side compared to chain hotels.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to Bristol for a concert, The Berkeley Square Hotel offers a stylish, artsy base with great nightlife access—and a peaceful place to crash afterward.

Would recommend.

Liked: Great location, excellent breakfast, comfy beds.
Disliked: The weather was very hot, and although there was a fan , we were unable to leave the window open. Rather than a window, it was a door leading to a space at the back of the kitchens. In typical British weather, it wouldn't be a problem!

My stay experience was mixed...

Liked: The location of the hotel was good and, easy to get to other places of interest from there. There was a nice little park directly in front. Nice to have some greenery amidst concrete dwellings. Safe, private secured parking. It was a nice touch that the hotel provided a welcome drink, which I thi know was Port, I cannot remember. I believe it was from somewhere well known to the hotel. I drank it and found it very nice in deed. Very palettable
Disliked: Last minute notification of "planned" renovation work being carried at the hotel which was noisy. After completion of the work, the chap did rudimentary clean up but, neglected to wipe dust off the room doors and corridor wall. Consequently, I got dust on my clothes and luggage, when I accidentally brushed past. Annoying. Also, one member of staff (a female), seemed to be selective with which hotel guests she would inform whether there was parking space available. (I'm a black female and travelled alone to Bristol fir the weekend). The young woman told me that there were no more spaces in the hotel's private car park. However, within minutes of my stepping outside to unload my luggage from my car which was temporarily parked outside directly outside, upon my return, a male member of staff had taken over on reception and my instinct was to ask him, if there were any parking spaces available and he said there was! Moments after he handed me a key for the private parking, the female colleague who had told me there was no available parking space reappeared, (perhaps she'd been to the toilets, I dont know). Anyway, she seemed a little uncomfortable, perhaps embarrassed, because I looked at her with a kind of quizzical look, as I accepted the car park key from her male colleague, whom I thanked for his kindness and helpfulness. This sort of thing from the female staff is not very helpful when you have staff who let an establishment down. The young man was cheerful, friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful and I told him so and expressed my thanks to him.

Great IF you get a...

Liked: Great water pressure, hot showers with Elemis products including conditioner ❤️Brilliant restaurant, every meal I had was chef's kiss. There was also a great offer running during August for huge savings on food. The waiting staff was also super friendly as was everyone I met at the front desk.Comfortable bed with firmer pillows.Dog friendly even in the restaurant area. The mini fridge helped me keep dog food fresh.Free glass of Bristol Cream upon arrival. The location is superb for transport links (even for a bus to Chepstow) and local sites. The park nearby is excellent for dog walks.I was moved to the Berkeley Suites which are PHENOMENAL. Suites only - brilliant little kitchenette (kettle, toaster, microwave, 2 stove cooker). Huge space in every room. Quiet area. Round corner from the main hotel. Highly recommended. Perfect if with a dog who normally has cooked meals. There's a large Sainsburys if you need to buy groceries not far from here.
Disliked: Noise was unbearable in room 14. There were loud building works together with music from 10am-5pm. You then got an hour relief before the baseline started dropping from the restaurant below. When I visited there were also parties from the bar (also below) which was noisy. I would contact the hotel far in advance when booking to ensure you're placed in a quieter section of the hotel. Ella was a lifesaver in moving me. I will forever be in debt to her.Breakfast tea was loose leaf which, although delicious, was annoying. Would rather have teabags.I didn't stay long enough - had such an amazing time and am kicking myself for not being able to work my way fully through the menu at dinner.

Very good, would definitely come...

Liked: Lovely room, quiet location despite being in city centre, amazing breakfast and very friendly helpful staff.
Disliked: Our only minor criticism is that we were planning to use the garden area and indoor lounge during our stay, but were unable to due to pre-arranged functions. We understand the hotel booking these but we think you should inform anyone booking that these will be happening so certain facilities may not be available. Otherwise we had a lovely stay and will come again. Thank you.
