The Spotlight on The Ben Sheann

Charming Highland Hideaway for Concert Recovery

Modern high-rises and neon lights aren’t for everyone. The Ben Sheann Hotel offers something more serene — a cozy, Victorian-style stay nestled in the scenic village of Strathyre, within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Around 25 miles from Stirling, it's a peaceful base with a classic Highland vibe and a warm, local welcome.

Each room comes with a flat-screen TV, hairdryer, and tea/coffee facilities, plus free WiFi to keep you connected. It’s a great place to unwind after a gig, especially if you’re pairing your concert with a weekend of nature and fresh air.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel may be a little outside the city lights, but that can be a huge plus. After the buzz of a packed venue, The Ben Sheann offers quiet surroundings and a good night’s sleep. It’s about 40 minutes’ drive from Stirling's concert halls, making it a great option for those with a car or rideshare plan. With flexible check-in from 16:00 and check-out at 11:00, you’ve got plenty of time to rest and recover.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a laid-back, scenic setting post-show
  • Solo travelers in need of a peaceful retreat after the crowd
  • Couples making a weekend of it with music and mountain views
  • Fans who prefer a quiet space to recharge
  • Budget-conscious music lovers seeking value and charm

Food and Drink Options

While the hotel itself doesn’t offer late-night dining or an on-site restaurant, there’s a nearby ice cream parlor and local shop for snacks and essentials. Many guests opt to eat in Callander (just 9.6 miles away), where there are a variety of pubs and eateries. For those late nights, pack a few treats or plan ahead!

Nightlife Options

The Ben Sheann is more about peaceful nights than party lights, but you’ll find traditional pubs and bars in nearby towns like Callander. If you’re after classic Scottish hospitality and a quiet pint post-show, you’re in the right place.

What People Say

Guests love the picturesque setting, friendly staff, and clean, cozy rooms. Reviewers often mention how relaxed they felt during their stay, with many praising the value for money and the charming character of the building.

Areas for Improvement

The rural setting means you’ll need transport to get to and from concert venues — it's not ideal for those relying on public transit. Also, dining options on-site are limited, so plan meals in advance or enjoy a short trip to nearby towns.

The Bottom Line

If you’re seeking a quiet, affordable escape with a bit of character after the show, The Ben Sheann Hotel is a refreshing alternative to city stays.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Well to sum it up,...

Liked: It’s a beautiful building but very run down and need of a total revamp.
Disliked: I’ve honestly never left a review like this and do so with a heavy heart as the hotel has lots of potential. The min bar was grimy and dark so we planned to sit out in the sun, big mistake! We ordered two drinks to sit out side on the picnic benches. The pint of lager was cloudy and tasted like soda water. The gin had flat lemonade in which was poured from a bottle that looked as though it had been open for months. The seats outside aren’t usable we sat on them and it felt like it was going to collapse. The bench also had peeling paint all over and was very uncomfortable to sit on, so we left and went to the pub down the road. 9we left the drinks). The room is mostly clean however very basic. The mattress has springs poking through so very uncomfortable and the pillows were as flat as a pancake. Not a great sleep :(. The sink is weird the taps are so close to the basin it’s hard to get anything under the tap. On reflection the taps were too small for the sink. The host looked very unkempt which was off putting and struggled with basic social skills. He looked like he really didn’t like being there and he didn’t want the guests there. It all felt very uncomfortable. We left first thing the next morning and would has left that night but had already tried the refreshments down the road so couldn’t drive.

Naw!

Liked: location
Disliked: Very uncomfortable experience. Doors locked on arrival, smell was unpleasant, host wearing dirty clothes and with dirty hands to greet us and we felt like we were intruding. Breakfast was awful. Bedding is old, sheets worn and the pillows were lumpy and thin.Pity because it's a beautiful building and with the proper attention could be a fantastic place to relax.

Limit your expectations.

Liked: The location of the hotel is great. In the centre of the Strathyre, next to a village shop and scenic paths. Free parking plus free overflow parking with charging points for EV
Disliked: Problems with electric supply. If you put a katle on most likely you will cause a blackout to entire building. Wifi is down very often. The village itself has very poor 4G coverage (O2 customer)

Livingroom Bath Room

Liked: Beautiful, clean room with a bath in the living room. Very grateful to the host for cooking us dinner, as we were told in the village pub that food was only available for residents, which was a blow!
Disliked: Room was cold when we got there (it was freezing outside) but once we turned the radiator up it was fine.

Pleasant overnight in Strathyre on...

Liked: The place is really well located with good sized rooms. Wifi was good, breakfast was great. Fully stocked bar, had a nice pint. The host found a place to store my bike securely overnight, and lent me a pump when I mentioned that mine was broken. I got upgraded to a bigger room for free which was a nice surprise. The room was clean and comfortable. Its an older style guesthouse that is a bit outdated, but its actually fine, and met my expectations. The host is socially awkward and doesn't have the social cues you might expect, but he went out of his way to help me when asked.
