Liked: Lovely hotel. I wasn't feeling well at breakfast time, so staff let my partner bring my food to me, which I was so grateful for.

Visit once the refurb is...

Liked: Breakfast and restaurant food was delicious. The hotel is perfectly situated for the lake and the town. The staff were great. Helpful and very friendly. Room was clean and comfy. Plenty of parking.
Disliked: Fortunately this was not my first visit to The Belsfield as this visit was disappointing for a number of reasons. There is a lot of refurbishment work going on (much needed) which meant our room was very noisy during the day. It was also unseasonably cold during our stay but the hotel had turned off all the heating for 'summer' so the hotel was actually very cold which made it uncomfortable. I spent one meal wearing a jacket. The lift was out of order so negotiating the stairs with luggage was interesting though in fairness, the staff were very helpful and helped us to our room. If you book through a third party such as Booking.com they will charge you £15 a night for parking. Children are allowed there but I would not describe it as a child friendly hotel. There is nothing there for them to do. The hotel is now under new ownership and there is a lot of work going on but it may have been better if they had closed the hotel to complete the refurbishment instead of guests trying to holiday around them.

Fabulous! Congratulations to all who...

Liked: Polite, friendly staff from start to finish. Nothing too much bother. Vegetarian and gluten free food available. Breakfast choices excellent. Room and bathroom, large and comfortable. Excellent location with views of nearby lake. Few minutes walk to town. Plenty of eateries, pubs, shops and boat trips.
Disliked: Not really 'didnt like'. The hotel is undergoing g major refurbishment, so scaffolding up around parts of exterior and workmen there in the week, however, this didnt spoil outbreak as most of the time we were unaware of them working.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Sad to say disappointed

Liked: Staff very friendly and attentive. Food for breakfast was lovely, plenty of options. Pastries were delicious. Location was perfect access to the boat trips was to the front of the hotel as was the bus service (great circular). Restaurants and bars easy walking distance.
Disliked: Booked for birthday celebration. As soon as we pulled into hotel car park (costing £15 per night to park btw, I remember reading this in the reviews and thought maybe it was an off site car park but no it’s the hotel car park), we were met by scaffolding and building works. I asked why this wasn’t on the website (I’d extensively searched for birthday treat) and was told it wasn’t going to affect us. There were building materials to the side of hotel too. We were given our keys. The room was overlooking the staff area, blinds up were dirty. Just wasn’t inviting or what I had in mind when I booked (I remember the Egyptian sheets and black out curtains description). Also, I’d had a drink at the Belsfield the year before and it’s a beautiful grand old building sat on top of a hill overlooking Lake Windermere. I thought it would be lovely to stay. I was quite upset at this point as it definitely wasn’t the break I’d envisioned. I complained to reception and asked for another room I was told there weren’t any. As we were staying 2 nights I asked again the following morning. I was then given an alternative room. This room was lovely. Maybe you have to spend more than £180 a night for a nice room (£195 if you include the car park).
