Just old. And not charming

Disliked: Peeling paint. Doors and lamps didn’t work. Ac/ heat did not work. Bathroom was dirty. Musty smelling rooms. No extra pillows blankets or towels.

Liked: Very clean and close to the Opera house where we saw a show.
Disliked: Was disappointed that the bar/restaurant was closed.

Passable

Liked: Friendly staff, interesting old hotel. It could be a very cool place with just a little bit of cleaning, love and care.
Disliked: It was dirty, shabby. Fire hazard looking electrical cords everywhere. I did not see the restaurant nor the bar ever open during my stay. On the day I was checking out the staff said the hotel was shutting down and they all lost their jobs.

Liked: The breakfast was limited but fine for our purposes. The hotel was located within walking distance of everything and was very convenient.

Perfect place to stay if...

Liked: Very friendly staff, the restaurant and bar area were fantastic. Lots of free parking. Historic hotel. Porch was very cool, even though it was a little cold, they did have a fireplace.
Disliked: Could upgrade the mattresses a little. Bathroom door handles were very loose (Although exterior door and locks were very secure).

Of moldy building

Liked: No much
Disliked: The room was moldy. Breakfast was minimal. We tried to check out early because of mold and they refused to refund a day.

One of my favorite hotels!!

Liked: The new owners, along with the rest of the staff are amazing. Very kind and accommodating! This was my third time here and still love it. The interior and exterior is beautiful and historic.
Disliked: The hotel and staff are wonderful. No complaints. They do an outstanding job!

Subpar which is a shame...

Liked: Great location to the Abbeville town square. Historic building was cool.
Disliked: Rooms were NOTHING like the ones on the website. Peeling paint, lamps that didn’t work, space heater, bathroom caulking that looked like a high school shop class job. The room we were in was unacceptable for the price we paid. My wife grew up in Abbeville and we were returning for our 35th anniversary. The hotel is in a pretty sorry state of disrepair. I understand it was built in 1903, but it looked like it hadn’t been renovated since then. I was primarily disappointed simply because the room photos on the website were so misleading. Staff was friendly but it felt like we were in an abandoned house for most of the stay. I could go on but I won’t. I will say we learned the Belmont was just purchased. The new owners need to invest some money for basic renovations. I’d also suggest bringing in new management. While the general staff were friendly and competent, the building, rooms, and overall experience was pretty bad. Reading previous reviews I think management is aware a lot of work needs to be done but apparently is not very interested in doing what needs to be done. Could be an amazing destination but I would not return based on our experience.

Superb

Liked: Within walking distance of the town square.
Disliked: Breakfast area needs to be monitored more. We had to call each morning for refills of coffee, milk or Creamer. We also ran out of paper towels.
