The Barrington Arms Hotel

All in all, a nice...

Liked: Breakfast was excellent - cooked to order and generous portions. Room was very comfortable and clean. A good size too for a double. Parking on site was convenient. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Location was just a 15min walk or 3minute drive from where my friends live so very placed.
Disliked: The room was a little dated and the shower tray is in need of replacement/repair as there was large crack/split in the on the outside of the base so it was more unsightly than unusable. The building is clearly under going a refurbishment with scaffolding around the outside. Also, I was unaware of the process to enter the main building to my room after 11pm and found the main entrance in darkness and locked up. I was lucky to bump into a member of staff around the back entrance who informed me that I needed to gain entry via the fire escape staircase and then by using a code for the fire door. This information may have been on the hotel info cards in the room but I hadn’t seen it so I think I should have been told about this when I checked in. Lights on this staircase would be useful too especially as I didn’t know where I was going and it was very dark. Luckily, I used the torch on my mobile phone.

Great venue, warm, helpful staff,...

Liked: Location perfect. Nigel's breakfasts and service was great. Hannah looked after me on arrival, and during my stay.Nice place, some bits (roof terrace) a little tired, but characterful, old buildings need constant attention.
Disliked: As above, the tired bits.

Fine for one night is...

Liked: Good location and value for money. Breakfast ok and fast service. Room clean and a decent size.
Disliked: Staff were a little rude, was given incorrect information by one and another was very abrupt when I questioned it. Quite a few ants in the bathroom and some stains on the carpet, but generally fine.

Comfortable and great value for...

Liked: Perfect location with good food and lovely staff
Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Acceptable - staff were late on duty and it was late
Disliked: Barry restaurant area would benefit from refurbishment

Very good value and comfortable...

Liked: Nice old building, the guest accommodation is chalet style, separate to the pub. They were not offering evening meals when we stayed but directed us the pub opposite which had a good pub menu. The staff at the Barrington were very helpful and responsive.

OK for a short stay.

Liked: A good central location for where I needed to visit.
Disliked: Staff were ok but the breakfast cook could have been more attentive rather than looking at his mobile with his feet up.The room was passable but could have been better decorated. The shower door was broken but useable. The flloring could be fixed. There was no mirror in the bedroom area.

Exceptional
