The Spotlight on The Avenue Bed and Breakfast

Peaceful Comfort Just Outside the Buzz of Newcastle

Modern yet charming, The Avenue Bed and Breakfast is tucked away in the leafy suburb of Jesmond. Just a 15-minute walk from Jesmond Metro Station, this cozy B&B offers a quiet retreat with easy access to Newcastle’s bustling city center and top concert venues. Guests enjoy comfortable rooms, free Wi-Fi, and a hearty full English breakfast to start the day right.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert enthusiasts appreciate the balance of peace and proximity. You're just over a mile from the heart of Newcastle’s live music scene, and the nearby Jesmond Metro Station runs frequent trains into the city—perfect for catching an evening show without stress. After the gig, return to a quiet neighborhood for a good night’s sleep. With flexible check-in from 14:00 and a manageable check-out at 10:30, it’s easy to fit around your concert plans.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for affordable, well-connected digs
  • Solo travelers catching a once-in-a-lifetime tour
  • Couples turning a concert night into a weekend getaway
  • Fans who value quiet recovery after the encore
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who prefer comfort without the price tag

Food and Drink Options

You’ll get a proper start to the day with a freshly cooked full English breakfast served each morning. While there’s no on-site restaurant for late-night bites, Jesmond’s lively dining scene is within walking distance, offering everything from takeaways to bistros. Tea and coffee in your room help with post-show wind-downs.

Nightlife Options

While the B&B itself is quiet and relaxed, Jesmond is known for its vibrant bars and pubs—many of them just a short walk or quick metro ride away. Whether you're after craft cocktails, live music, or a quiet pint, you’ll find plenty of options nearby without needing to go far into the city.

What People Say

Guests rave about the friendly service, spotless rooms, and the excellent location that balances calm surroundings with quick access to the city. Many note the breakfast as a standout, and the free Wi-Fi gets consistent praise. It’s often described as a “hidden gem” for travelers wanting a quieter stay.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the decor is a bit dated, and others would love to see breakfast served a little later—especially after a long concert night. There’s no elevator, so pack light if you’re in a top-floor room.

The Bottom Line

The Avenue Bed and Breakfast is a peaceful, well-connected base for concert-goers who want easy metro access to Newcastle’s live music venues—without sacrificing a good night’s sleep.

The Avenue Bed But No...

Liked: Very quiet location, nice view over the cricket ground, and our hosts Steve and Christine were super-friendly, hospitable... and most apologetic. Read on!
Disliked: The building was shut on arrival; our Thai phones wouldn't work so we had to ask a passer-by to call the number. We received the keypad code to get in, and were told to pick up the room key from the sideboard. We made ourselves at home in Room 6, but an hour later Steve arrived and told us we should have been in Room 9! So we had to pack up and move upstairs. The following morning, we went down to breakfast before 9:30am (as instructed on a notice on the bedroom door), only to find that breakfasts had been discontinued since January, and had there been any, they would have been £10, not £7.50 as stated in our booking.

Friendly, cosy and great location

Liked: The owner was very friendly, the location is good just a few minutes from Jesmond high street and the Metro Station. The room was cosy and it was very quiet at night.
Disliked: Only complaint is about the shower, water ran out to the main bathroom quite easily.

Adequate but ultimately disappointed and...

Liked: What breakfast?
Disliked: I was told there would be a breakfast as advertised on the room description, part of the reason for booking, but then told it was no longer offered but would be specially provided and naturally I would have paid - it wasn’t mentioned again. I found this disappointing. Also the host never seemed to be around despite me leaving the property for 9 or 10 am each day, except on the day I checked out. I found this a bit inconvenient. Appreciated the information provided on arrival but there was no opportunity to ask further beyond that. The room was clean and comfortable and facilities were fine, the only issue was with the bathroom which when using the shower the water went all over the floor outside of the shower and when I went to hang the mat over the curtain rail because it was soaked - a tension rod - it fell down. Also the bin hadn’t been emptied before my stay so I could see the prescription medication / name of the previous guest!

Sam Fender stay

Liked: It was a nice clean, tidy friendly place to stay at a reasonable price. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre but serviced by good bus and Metro services.
Disliked: Nothing negative to say
