Catherine, Narragansett, RI, visiting Citizens House of Blues Boston

The employees at the restaurant and the reception desk were very polite, helpful, and respectful.

Liked: Very clean; liked the furniture and spaciousness of the room.
Disliked: The room was right above the kitchen, so it shook when they were doing laundry. Pillows were too puffy!

Front desk were very friendly and helpful. They gave us a free upgrade to a suite which was awesome and the location is great. We went to a show at the Paradise which is on Comm Ave and was only a 10 minute walk away. I will definitely stay there again and you can catch the Green Line Trains right across the street.

Liked: Great staff; very clean.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Disappointing

Liked: The location is great. It is in a scenic part of Brookline, walkable to Coolidge Corner, and very accessible to the T.
Disliked: This was the worst mattress I have ever slept on. It was soft and without any structural integrity. Whenever I laid down on the bed, I would roll into the middle and sink into it like a bean bag. It's also not clear from the photos or listing that the room's windows look into the hallway, which was a bit bizarre.

Great location, comfortable room, good...

Liked: Spotlessly clean. Sizeable room, good shower. Calm modern business decor. Quality bed (a bit softer mattress than average). Useful work desk. Reliable WiFi. Helpful staff, and friendly in that non-effusive Boston way. Lovely neighbourhood, and good eateries and cafes nearby. For me, it was very pleasant 30 min walk to work venues (near the MFA, and towards downtown Boston), plus T stop right outside the hotel for the evening journey back. Despite the oddities (below) I enjoyed the stay.
Disliked: It's the oddest hotel I've stayed in, in one important way. The structure is like three lines of two-storey motel, a whole city block long, with a roof and shell all round the outside. My room had its door onto an internal 'street'. At the other end, its window was onto another internal street. So there was no daylight, and you couldn't really open the curtains and expect any privacy. This is hinted (or complained about) in other visitors' reviews, but not explicit on the hotel's website. The hotel should find a way to be more transparent about it. The word 'inside' doesn't explain it, if you've never met something similar.Breakfast: cereals and endless wheat-based carbs (bagels, pastries); urn coffee. No crockery, all throwaway. At this price point and three-star status, I'd expect hot food options/buffet, or at least more range of cheeses/veg/fruit/etc. And espresso-based coffee choices - self-service machines do this well now.

Nice enough hotel but bookings...

Liked: Convenient location, nice breakfast, lovely linens.
Disliked: I booked a tower king room and was switched to an interior room without being told at check-in despite a price difference. Another party at the reception had also booked tower kings and arrived to find none left- the majority of the hotel appeared to be interior rooms without windows to the outside and I assume the hotel is overbooking its external rooms assuming people will accept the internal rooms. The reception staff switched me to a studio after I insisted on a room with an exterior window as booked which I appreciated. The studio was comfortable but an exceptionally long walk from the reception. All rooms lack the coffee makers advertised in pictures and text on booking.com.

Good

Liked: The hotel was okay. I liked the neighbourhood and the easy access with the green line to downtown Boston. Room and equipment there were sufficient.
Disliked: I wasn't a fan of the breakfast. Maybe it is because I am European, but I missed something to put on my bagel that was fresh or wasn't sweetened. I could only find jam, peanut butter, cream cheese and so on, but no ham/cheese/eggs or anything of that kind. The room didn't have a window (we knew that in advance) and was therefore quite dark.
