Catherine, Narragansett, RI, visiting Citizens House of Blues Boston

The employees at the restaurant and the reception desk were very polite, helpful, and respectful.

Liked: Very clean; liked the furniture and spaciousness of the room.
Disliked: The room was right above the kitchen, so it shook when they were doing laundry. Pillows were too puffy!

Front desk were very friendly and helpful. They gave us a free upgrade to a suite which was awesome and the location is great. We went to a show at the Paradise which is on Comm Ave and was only a 10 minute walk away. I will definitely stay there again and you can catch the Green Line Trains right across the street.

Liked: Great staff; very clean.

Good location, not convenient with...

Liked: Location
Disliked: The rooms have no windows with natural light. So they’re very dark. Breakfast was limited and you couldnt really sit at a table unless you were lucky. Not ideal when you’re with kids

I would never do it...

Liked: The location was the only good thing.
Disliked: The rooms didn’t even have hand soap or shower gel. The breakfast was ridiculous; pastries only. Such a let down. The way the staff responds to your questions and the confidence they have when they say there isn’t soap is seriously frustrating.

Would stay again.

Liked: This hotel is in a great location for visiting Boston. The T stop is right outside so getting around the city is really easy. We were lucky enough to be able to check in as soon as we arrived, which was 3 hours early due to flight times etc. The hotel was spotlessly clean and spacious enough for us as a family of 4 including 2 teenagers. The bed in the bedroom was really comfortable. The sofa bed was ok for a couple of nights but anything longer may have been an issue. Breakfast was included which was helpful in the mornings. The hotel is in a lovely quiet neighbourhood with shops and restaurants just a couple of blocks away. We had a fridge in the room which was handy, an iron, ironing board and hairdryer.
Disliked: The air con unit is very noisy so had to turn it off at night. Lighting in the rooms isn’t very bright. Seating for breakfast is limited so when it is busy there is nowhere to sit and eat. Breakfast choices were ok….. pastries and bagels/bread mostly. Need more fruit I think. On our final morning there was no yoghurt, no oats, no juice and no fruit!!! Sofa bed was very lumpy. On arrival we had no bedding for the sofa bed for our daughters and each day we had to go to reception to ask for more toilet paper, where we were only given 1 roll at a time. Kettle in the room but not sure what for…. No cups provided nor any tea/coffee.

Pleasant

Liked: Great room, very clean, staff was very helpful and polite.
Disliked: The hotel is cashless and I could break a bill in the morning to leave a decent tip for the housekeeping staff, also there was no way to add a tip to the bill. Luckily I had two dollars but I felt that was not an adequate tip for the housekeepers. If you do not want your employees to have to handle cash please have an alternative way for guests to leave a tip.

Avoid this hotel at all...

Liked: Nothing, really - except the beds were comfortable.
Disliked: Most of the rooms are hermetically sealed boxes with "windows" facing a dark corridor - not the outside world. In the event that air conditioning fails - which it did in our case - your night is spent at 80 degrees. Staff reported that other rooms also had an air-con problem. We moved room after a sleepless night. Even when there is air-con, hotel management has cunningly screwed a perspex barrier to the vent, directing the icy air directly at guests in bed. We had to ask for this to be removed. American hotels, including this one, have taken to providing only paper plates and plastic cutlery for breakfasts - truly awful. This hotel's food ran out at around 09.00: it was a weekend and crowded, with only one staff member to restock food, wipe tables etc. - the breakfast area looked like a bombsite.
