The Spotlight on The Antlers

Peaceful Highland Base Camp for Music Lovers

Modern comforts meet rural charm at The Antlers, a cozy bed and breakfast nestled in the scenic village of Lybster. Just 15 miles from Wick John O'Groats Airport and within easy reach of local music events, this laid-back stay gives guests a restful home base surrounded by rolling hills and sea views. With a garden, terrace, and shared lounge, the vibe here is all about unwinding in nature after a big night out.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert fans appreciate The Antlers for its tranquil setting—perfect for decompressing after a high-energy show. It’s close enough to Wick and surrounding venues to be convenient, but far enough to avoid the post-gig crowds and noise. Free parking and flexible packed lunch options make it easy to head out to events or hit the road without hassle. While check-in starts at 16:00, guests often mention the friendly flexibility of the hosts.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a quiet base to crash after a gig
  • Solo travelers chasing that once-in-a-lifetime concert experience
  • Couples turning a show into a scenic weekend escape
  • Fans who need down time after the encore
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want charm and comfort

Food and Drink Options

While The Antlers doesn’t have a restaurant on-site, it offers packed lunches for those on the go—great for pre-show bites or road trip snacks. Local eateries are a short drive away, and the peaceful lounge is perfect for winding down with a takeaway. Breakfast is included and served at a relaxed pace, which late-night fans appreciate.

Nightlife Options

The Antlers is more about stargazing than strobe lights. While there’s no on-site bar or live music, it’s a restful retreat after visiting nearby pubs or music venues in Wick. Those looking for a chilled nightcap will enjoy the shared lounge or terrace under the Highland sky.

What People Say

Guests love the quiet atmosphere, friendly hosts, and spotless rooms. Many highlight the convenience of free parking and WiFi, plus the thoughtful touch of packed lunches. Reviewers often mention how ideal it is for a peaceful night after a busy event.

Areas for Improvement

The rural location means you’ll want a car to get to and from concert venues. WiFi can be spotty at times, and the 10:00 check-out might feel a bit early after a late night—but a strong cup of Highland tea helps!

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a quiet, budget-friendly stay near Wick with warm hospitality, The Antlers hits all the right notes for concert-goers.

Very good

Liked: Lovely couple so kind...husband drove us around in his own car to show us some of the local sights we had come to find.
Disliked: Unfortunately husband smoked and left house and us smelling of smoke late at night. They told us we had to leave the next morning by 9am because they had to go to Inverness for a medical appointment, so up far too early for quick breakfast then out the door.

Very comfortable, very accommodating, would...

Liked: Breakfast was excellent, even though my sons had never tried kippers before, and wouldn't eat them again ( not a reflection on the cook, more a question of their own tastes:)) the fish were very well prepared, as was the rest of the ample breakfast . The house was very comfortable and it's location was excellent ...great views, a friendly cat, and the chance to feed toast to Ruby and Rosie the two horses. Short drive to the harbour too. Sorry for this late review, btw.
Disliked: N/a

Superb

Liked: A lovely home stay in Room 2, four poster room. A lovely room with tea/coffee facilities, a comfortable bed, and a shared bathroom (although we were the only guests using it). Late arrival accommodated as we were doing the NC500 and travelling. Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious, very filling and set us up for the day. Overall a lovely stay.
Disliked: The family smoked, and this was noticeable upon arrival, but the room was clean and free from odours and the following morning it was not apparent. Did not affect our stay but may affect others.

Liked: Owners and breakfast were exceptional. Collected us when directions from bookings proved faulty. Welcomed us with drinks and snacks in front of fire and TV. Surrounded by rural beauty. Only stayed 1 night but would be great for a week to stay and recentre.
Disliked: Directions from bookings website sent us to wrong village. Salvaged by owners rescuing us.

Lovely place to stay but...

Liked: Breakfast was excellent and the hosts were pleasant.
Disliked: Weren't left to unpack when we arrived, given tea and biscuits which was lovely but would have been better after we'd been to our room.No lock on the room.No where near to eat and need to book somewhere advance, maybe should be advised to book in for a meal when making the booking.
