The Spotlight on The Andrews Hotel

European Charm Steps from San Francisco's Music Scene

The Andrews Hotel blends classic style and cozy comfort in the heart of San Francisco’s Theater District. Just a short stroll from Union Square and less than a mile from iconic spots like Chinatown and Nob Hill, this European-style boutique hotel offers easy access to the city's top entertainment venues. Rooms are warm and welcoming, with free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and thoughtful touches like leather armchairs and work desks. With an on-site Italian restaurant and a relaxed vibe, it’s a solid pick for travelers looking to mix music, culture, and comfort.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel is in the sweet spot for show nights. You're just a 10-minute walk from the Powell Street BART station, making it easy to get to and from San Francisco International Airport or jump on late-night transit. Union Square and nearby music venues are within walking distance, so you can skip the rideshare lines. The neighborhood stays lively but not overly noisy, and with a 3:00 PM check-in and a generous 12:00 PM check-out, you’ve got flexibility to sleep in or prep at your own pace.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends catching a show and exploring the city
  • Solo travelers checking off a bucket-list artist
  • Couples enjoying a romantic concert weekend
  • Fans who want a calm, classic space to unwind after the show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want charm without the steep price

Food and Drink Options

Fino Ristorante & Bar, right in the hotel, serves up satisfying Italian fare and daily specials—perfect for post-concert cravings. While room service isn’t 24/7, the on-site fireplace-lit dining room is a cozy late-night option, and you’re surrounded by walkable eateries ranging from casual bites to upscale dining. Morning-after recovery is easy with breakfast available on-site or nearby.

Nightlife Options

While The Andrews Hotel itself doesn’t host live music, you’re right where the action is. The Theater District and Union Square are packed with bars, lounges, and live music venues just minutes away. For a chill nightcap, Fino’s bar offers a relaxed atmosphere and a solid wine list.

What People Say

Guests love the friendly staff, charming vintage feel, and excellent location for walking to shows and city highlights. Many mention the warm, European vibe and say it’s a great value for the area. The in-house restaurant also gets high marks for quality and convenience.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms aren’t large, and the building’s historic character means you might hear some hallway noise. There’s no air conditioning—rarely an issue in SF, but worth noting during warm spells. Some guests mention the elevator is small and a bit slow, but hey, it adds to the old-school charm.

The Bottom Line

The Andrews Hotel is a cozy, character-filled base for concert-goers who want to stay near the action without sacrificing comfort or breaking the bank.

Very good

Liked: The property was nice, the room was big and had a window. The TV was also great. The space was clean. The breakfast was simple but reliable and helped in SF where everything is very expensive. For a stay of a week it was good.
Disliked: The bathroom sink was rather small and the water pressure was not as strong as I expected--still, both were serviceable enough, this was a minor issue.

Poor

Liked: The room was a bit small but we spent a lot of time outside the hotel. The location was close to the concert venue so we could walk. It felt pretty safe walking back close to midnight.
Disliked: I chose this hotel because it advertised included parking. Parking was not included and we parked in a parking garage that all the hotels use. Valet was $60 and the garage was $35. It was a big unplanned expense. The front desk was not helpful and there was a $150 security deposit. There were many hidden expenses with this hotel.

Acceptable

Liked: The location is good although parking is expensive.
Disliked: The bathroom is small and front desk and staff don't give attention to instructions. I advised them not to . Make up the room but make sure to replace the dirty towels and when I came back surprise it's still there.

Good

Liked: The hotel is in a great location — within walking distance of Union Square and Powell Street Station, which is convenient both for catching the BART to the airport and for hopping on the iconic Cable Car.The hotel itself is older but well maintained, and the staff were friendly and easy to deal with throughout our stay. One nice touch was the free glass of wine during the 5–6 PM happy hour at the Italian restaurant next door. That said, I wasn’t too impressed by the pizza there — I personally prefer a thinner crust. The restaurant is only open for dinner, so don’t count on it for breakfast.
Disliked: Breakfast at the hotel is very simple: just a bagel, a sweet muffin, or a donut. It’s a bit of a shame they don’t collaborate with the restaurant next door for breakfast, as there’s not much space to sit and enjoy your meal in the hotel itself. The room was clean and comfortable, but there were a couple of odd design choices. The bathroom shelf above the sink is placed in such a way that you might bump your head when leaning over to brush your teeth (I speak from experience!). Also, the TV in our room was quite small and positioned on a table that was about level with — or even slightly lower than — the bed, which made it a bit awkward to watch from a comfortable angle.

Great older style small hotel

Liked: Great location, older style historic building. Light breakfast included was a bonus.
Disliked: Rooms are small, but didn't feel cramped, so not really a problem.
