The Spotlight on The Alexandra Hotel

Affordable, Quiet Comfort Near Toronto’s Live Music Scene

Modern, no-frills, and budget-friendly, The Alexandra Hotel offers a simple yet comfortable stay right in downtown Toronto. Nestled just a short drive from the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods like Kensington Market and Chinatown, this hotel is a solid base for concert-goers looking to be close to the action without breaking the bank. With in-room kitchenettes, private bathrooms, and free Wi-Fi, it’s all about convenience and value.

Why Concert-goers love it

The Alexandra is less than a 10-minute drive or a brisk 20-minute walk to major venues like the Queen West music district and the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. It's located on a quieter residential street, so after a night of loud amps and flashing lights, you can retreat to a peaceful space. Flexible 12:00 PM checkout gives you extra time to recharge post-show, and public transit options nearby make getting around the city a breeze.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends on a budget who want to be near nightlife without staying in it
- Solo travelers following their favorite band on tour
- Couples enjoying a concert weekend getaway
- Fans who crave a quiet spot to rest after the encore
- Budget-conscious music fans looking to save on accommodations without sacrificing location

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no on-site restaurant, the in-room kitchenettes make it easy to prep a late-night bite, and the area is surrounded by walkable eateries ranging from eclectic food trucks to cozy cafes. Grab breakfast at one of the nearby bakeries after sleeping in — no need to rush. For longer stays, there’s a grocery store just a few blocks away.

Nightlife Options

You’re minutes from Toronto’s buzzing Queen Street West and Ossington Avenue, where you’ll find live music bars, indie lounges, and late-night spots serving local craft drinks. While the hotel itself is quiet, the city’s nightlife is never far.

What People Say

Guests love the great location, friendly staff, and unbeatable value for downtown Toronto. Reviews often highlight how clean and quiet the rooms are, and the convenience of having a kitchenette. Many note it’s a perfect choice for those who want to explore the city without spending a fortune.

Areas for Improvement

The décor is a bit dated and you won’t find luxury amenities here — think practical, not posh. No on-site bar or restaurant may be a downside for some, but the neighborhood more than makes up for it.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers who want a quiet, affordable stay just minutes from Toronto’s top music venues, The Alexandra Hotel hits all the right notes.

It was great value and we were able to park at the hotel which was great. It had everything we needed for the night. Had the air conditioner not been a very old one and click and bang all night, it would have been a great night!

Liked: The price was great.
Disliked: The air conditioner was loud and banged - it kept us up most of the night.

What an amazing hotel. Comes with cutlery and plated plus a near full kitchen. Flat screen TV's so you can plug a computer or gaming console in, and openable windows. Such a perfect little place.

Liked: The amazing staff and comfy beds.
Disliked: None.

This wasn't a 5 star luxury hotel, but I didn't expect it to be. The woman who was running the place was really friendly and helpful. The room was small, but besides a bed and a bathroom also included a stove top, a microwave, a fridge, a kitchen sink, a desk, a TV, a couch, and a window AC. What else could you want? In the mornings there was a pile of complimentary newspapers by the elevator. Parking was $5 a day, but once there we were able to leave the car and just walk everywhere. The area felt safe enough - though I was walking everywhere with my husband - if I was alone, I may have been a little wary late at night. I was pleasantly surprised and would stay here again.

Liked: Friendly staff, free wifi, mini-kitchen.

We did not feel safe...

Liked: Friendly staff
Disliked: Not well maintained. Did not feel safe. People were doing drugs outside on the property right by the entrance. Front entrance was broken. They charged to park in an unmaintained lot and large security fee for a substandard room.

Good

Liked: The good: rooms are very clean and modestly but conveniently furnished. Love having the kitchenette available, so we could make food rather than constantly eating out. Appreciated having chairs and tables as well. The hotel is very quiet and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. When we checked in we were given maps and all sorts of information about how to get to our destinations. Parking fee is quite reasonable and cameras keep parking secure. Plus the location can't be beat! An easy walk or transit ride to all of the city attractions. Bordering the hotel property is a park with play equipment and a pool as well. 30 min walk to CN tower; 40 min to harbour; 10 min walk to Kensington market/Chinatown, transit station. 30 min transit ride to casa loma, university and museum district.
Disliked: What people may want to know: it appears this hotel also serves as temporary housing for people experiencing homelessness. At all hours there are people gathered around the entrance, hanging out and snoking various substances. Initially this was startling but truly we never had a single issue. Any person we interacted with here was friendly and respectful. My only negative from the room was that the bed was quite firm, not the most comfortable. But again it was very clean and in general the room was good for our needs. I was traveling with my 2 kids. I would also have liked a hook in the bathroom.

Good place for convenience, that's...

Liked: Its pricey, but for Toronto I guess somewhat reasonable. Check in was easy enough and rooms were surprising clean compared to the rest of the facilities.
Disliked: Being on the cheaper end, and in a slightly dodgy neighbourhood- some rooms seem rented long term to drug users and for prostitution. Didn't bother me and there were no issues during my stay, but definitely not appropriate place for families and single female travelers. Besides the rooms, rest of hotel is in a pretty uninspiring state.

Good location in a great...

Liked: Toronto is a wonderful city. The Alexandra is close to Kensington Market, Chinatown, Queen Street shopping and streetcar lines. The room had fridge, sink, microwave and a good shower.
Disliked: It is near a park and a lot of homeless people seem to hang around just outside the hotel. They look menacing but are completely harmless.
