We love this beautiful, rustic...

Liked: The location is awesome! Half mile from the ferry right on the rocky shore and you can hear the surf all night. Nice common area in great open space by the fireplace on the first floor and a full shared kitchen in the basement which is great for just grabbing coffee or preparing and eating meals with your family.
Disliked: This is a dorm styled facility so sharing a bathroom is a little awkward but well worth the annoyance in the middle of the night.

A must on the island

Liked: It is a unique place to stay, full of history and which mission is to keep the memory of those who battled in the civil war. People are lovely, we sad at the fireplace talking about the history and some travel advices. You can hear the ocean while sleeping.
Disliked: N/A

Youth hostel-like lodging.

Liked: No breakfast served. Beautiful view of water from room. Bedding clean.
Disliked: Steep incline into the facility and steep stairs to room which were not mentioned at booking. Shared bathroom down hall. Furniture spare to none.

Unique, authentic, fun family experience.

Liked: The Lodge is a very special place. We loved the unique history and approach. There is a lot on communal space and activity, including the bathrooms. We can see that this would not be for everyone, but we loved the simplicity and natural ability to meet the staff and other guests. The views are spectacular, the location is amazing and the building and amenities (best outdoor shower and morning reading on the deck with hot coffee) are very authentic. We met great people and enjoyed feeling enveloped by the special love people have for Peaks Island.
Disliked: The installations are basic - bathrooms, guest rooms, beds, dining area - all very simple. But what the place lacks in luxury it makes up for in character and authenticity.

Wonderful experience.

Liked: It was a wonderful experience that a hotel could never give you. Sitting on the porch at night having a drink with some of the other guest and listening to the surf hitting the rock was very relaxing. We plan on returning for a longer stay.
Disliked: This is NOT a negative on the property or its staff, The property is located on an island which is only reachable by ferry. Since we came from out of state we ferried the rental car to the island. Parking on the island is limited, not impossible but I think that there were better option that we were not aware of before the trip. There is parking at the dock in Portland and there are golf cart and bicycle rentals right at the dock on the island. We will explore this option for our next visit.

A unique educational experience with...

Liked: Not knowing what to expect other than the website, we enjoy unique experiences and we were not disappointed. My only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. Our hosts were very accommodating and a pleasure to be around.
Disliked: That we couldn’t stay longer.

Great opportunity to learn about...

Liked: Bring own food or other outlets on the island. I liked the uniqueness of the facility and enjoyed the museum. Staff very warm , caring and knowledgeable. Took great concern for us especially my husband who had difficulty with the stairs. Scenery wonderful. Great experience and the care and dedication to the facility was exceptional.
Disliked: My husband found it difficult to adjust to lack of media/ paper and news even if it was only for a day.
