Fantastic stay overall, highly recommended.
Liked: Nestled in a serene environment, this estate boasts a beautiful garden and expansive grounds that offer a secluded and peaceful retreat. The stunning scenery provides a picturesque backdrop, enhancing the charm of the period house adorned with antique decor and furnishings. These historical pieces are rich in history, adding a unique character to the home. The host, a direct descendant of the family that has lived here for several generations, warmly welcomes guests, sharing stories and insights into the property's storied past. One of the estate's highlights is the wonderful lake, which is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The lake is home to a diverse array of bird and plant species, creating a vibrant ecosystem that delights nature lovers. Visitors can enjoy leisurely wild walks along the shore, observing the rich biodiversity and soaking in the tranquility.Adding to the estate's historical allure are the nearby ruins, which offer a glimpse into the area's past. The presence of a charming boat house on the lake further enhances the idyllic setting. Guests can spend their days exploring the ruins, birdwatching, or simply relaxing by the lake, making this estate a perfect destination for those seeking a blend of history, nature, and serenity. The EV charger on-site is a single domestic type 2 (AC) charger "Wallbox". It can be useful for an overnight charge.
Disliked: The furnishings are original antiques and show noticeable wear and tear. Rugs and carpets have become worn with protrusions, while the couch and cushions have collapsed fillings, torn upholstery, and dirty stains. Despite their significant historical value, they might be better suited for display. Modern, inexpensive furnishings could be used in the guest rooms for practical purposes.

Liked: This is a very special place to stay. The house and rooms are enormous and the breakfasts are excellent. Despite being so large, there is a nice informal feel to the place and we could come and go as we pleased. Roderick is a charming host.
Disliked: We liked everything!
