Lovely getaway
Liked: Beautiful property. Lovely spacious room . Relaxing stay in beautiful grounds. Nice staff. The weather was beautiful, so having the spa was great. Lots of towels and loungers for spa
Disliked: Changing room corridors a little cramped. Spa very basic.

A spa and culinary mini...
Liked: Great spa facilities set in a beautiful country house hotel. The dining experience was excellent and good value.
Disliked: The whole hotel feels understaffed, although the staff that are there were hard working and courteous. A few more staff would significantly improve the overall experience.

Mediocre
Liked: We loved the sheets. They were clean and the bed well made.
Disliked: The bed itself was too small. We tried to move rooms but there were no other rooms with bigger beds. It just doesn’t make sense to have such small beds for two people.

Nice to revisit after downstairs...
Liked: I love the refurbished downstairs of the hotel. It looks cleaner and fresher than it did. We got married there several years ago before the new ownership took over. It has a more premium feel now and the decor is carefully thought through. The attention to detail like the tulip design in the carpet and even the shortbread is a nice touch. The Tulip tree just outside is reputably the largest in England (I think) and was planted by Queen Elizabeth I. The breakfast was good and the service was friendly and professional.
Disliked: The room we had (delux double room) was dated. You can tell it had been decorated, but it was small, and just a bit tatty feeling. The shower door was a bit grim, not because of lack of cleaning, but it was clearly just old. The brass plug sockets and light switches looked very dated. It was absolutely not a “delux” room, but a standard double. To be honest, we’d have paid half and got a better room at Holiday Inn. I don’t know if all rooms are like this or if an upstairs refurb is planned, but this room really let down the premium, luxury feel of the hotel. Maybe the suites are updated, I don’t know, but the price of those is much higher than I’d expect to pay.

If there had been a...
Liked: The service, staff, afternoon tea and breakfast were all excellent. Very clean, a beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting.
Disliked: The only disappointment was a double bed - not even a kingsize and for a tall couple, it meant we hardly slept and were very uncomfortable. A member of staff showed us the only empty room and that had the same sized bed sadly. Not what we expected from such a beautiful hotel.

We had a nice time...
Liked: the room we were first given had a small double bed inside a wardrobe on metal legs in the attic!.. not nice at all. They moved us next door to a room which at least had a proper bed but still very tired and tatty ... the wardrobe door was hanging off! The hotel was clearly not full but they still gave us the worst room in place in the attic!
Disliked: Tired and dated
