Sunnyside Hotel-Downtown San Francisco is a budget-friendly, no-frills hotel located in the vibrant downtown area. With minimalist accommodations and a prime location near major landmarks like the Moscone Center, San Francisco City Hall, and Union Square, it’s a smart pick for concert-goers who want to stay close to the action without breaking the bank.
If you're heading to a show at the Moscone Center, Oracle Park, or nearby venues, you’ll appreciate how walkable or a short ride away they are from this hotel. The 24-hour front desk is a bonus for late-night arrivals, and you're well-connected to public transport and rideshare options. While the area can be lively, many guests say the rooms are surprisingly quiet at night—perfect for post-concert recovery.
While the hotel itself doesn’t offer on-site dining, you're within walking distance of plenty of late-night eateries, from burrito joints to ramen spots. Breakfast cafés and diners nearby open early or stay open late, which is ideal for those recovering from a night out. No room service, but food delivery services are fast and easy in this area.
You're just minutes away from some of San Francisco’s best nightlife. Whether you're into live music bars, chill lounges, or high-energy clubs, the downtown location puts it all within easy reach. There’s no bar on-site, but plenty of options are within walking distance.
The hotel is definitely on the bare-bones side—don’t expect luxury amenities or trendy decor. Some guests mentioned the building feels a bit dated, and street noise may be noticeable depending on your room. But for the price and location, most agree it’s a fair trade-off.
Sunnyside Hotel-Downtown San Francisco is a solid pick for concert-goers looking to stay downtown without splurging—close to venues, no fuss, and friendly staff to help you navigate the city.

This is a cheap hotel...
Liked: A cheap room near the Moscone convention center, that's it. You probably won't catch a disease, and you probably won't be assaulted. The locals keep to themselves and are pretty harmless. Though it's a rough neighborhood to be sure!
Disliked: This is a rough neighborhood. Lots of poverty, lots of addiction and illness. The hotel is quite worn from heavy use/abuse. It does not meet the typical standards of cleanliness for a hotel. And don't expect much in the way of basic amenities. Bring a towel, bring earplugs, and bring sheets if you can.

EXTREMELY UNSAFE & NOT CLEAN...
Disliked: I'm not sure how they can make this clear, but this is located in an incredibly dangerous area called the tenderloin. Our Uber driver told us twice he didn't think we should stay there, but I had already made the booking. We landed at the front door to a very scary street with many people yelling and staring at us. We immediately were incredibly uncomfortable, we then buzzed the gate to get into this building, which we noticed had the locks broken over 3 times & re-locked. As we walked up the stairs there was garbage and we were immediately alerted by a man screaming at the staff. The general vibe was that it could get violent. The staff apologized and were kind, they told us they would put us in an apartment for our saftey. So they took us down to a seperate part of the building back on the street, as the worker unlocked yet another gate another random person started trying to push into the area, saying "what's in here" the staff member just had to close the door on him as again it was just unsafe. We come into a dark room and he can't find the light, you can hear yelling right outside and the drug issues are incredibly prevalent. He brings us into a room that is not clean, so then he has to run back upstairs to grab a different key. As we look around this room there is an intense smell of urine, stains all over the couches / furniture / floor. At this point we were terrified and did not feel safe nor comfortable. He cones back down and we tell him we are just going to stay somewhere else, but he insists that it will be okay we just need to stay in our room. He brings us across the hallway to the second apartment. We get in to the same pee smell, there are multiple huge puddles from an active leak on the floor. Stains on the furniture. Then we found a cockroach. This was overall a crazy experience. We felt unsafe to even exit and get to our Uber.

The worst hotel I've ever...
Liked: The Price.
Disliked: The room is very dirty, full of dust, there was shit on the bathroom floor, the outside of the hotel is full of drugged and homeless people, they play loud music and sing all night long, it was impossible to sleep, there was a shooting near the hotel and the person guarding the hotel entrance is a drug addict.
