Exceptional

OK for an overnight stay.

Liked: All staff were very helpful and friendly and the property is conveniently located for the town and its facilities. Breakfast service was cheerful and efficient.
Disliked: This is an old building and so it comes with a few features which will be very difficult to change - e.g. narrow corridors, creaking floors. The decor in the rooms is a little tired, but everything works.

Adequate for a short stay

Disliked: The pillows were too hard and made of foam and not feathers. The decor was shabby and the roof below my window was covered in rubbish.

Comfortable and friendly.

Liked: Very friendly, helpful staff. I have recently had an operation and staff were always available and willing to carry my bags up and down the stairs.
Disliked: It's a nice old characterful building in a beautiful, central part of Hitchin.

Met our needs, comfy bed.

Liked: Breakfast was rather disappointing. Sourdough toast was soggy, missed the garnish seeds / dill on salmon as on menu. Help yourself buffet was plentiful and v good.
Disliked: Entrance and room decor looking shabby in need of refreshing and carpets cleaned/ replaced.But room was exceptionally clean.

Disliked: Some other guests were rather noisy and woke us up at 3am, not the hotel's fault but unfortunate

Disliked: Room was ok but seen better days. Breakfast was not good. Clearly not cooked fresh to order. Probably reheated and assembled in the kitchen. Sausages tough. Asked for crispy bacon - what arrived was a congealed lump of deep fried reheated bacon which was not crispy just greasy and fatty. Scrambled egg was overcooked.Skipped breakfast on 2nd day even though it was included in the price due to previous days experience l

Comfy, clean and good value...

Liked: The room was quite small and well appointed. The single bed was very comfortable and gave me just what I needed for one night visiting friends in Hitchin
Disliked: I expected to hear noise in my room as it was over an old coaching courtyard which has outside seating and is also a walkway from the public car park into town. I didn't expect to hear quite a lot of sound from a nearby bar coming through the vents or the pipes in the en suite bathroom! None of it went on too late, and I slept well. Just a bit disconcerting when I thought it was going to go on until the early hours
