This was a decent budget...

Liked: The room was adequate for budget lodging. I liked having a desk. The en suite bathroom was small but worked well. The location felt safe and was an easy bus ride into the center of the city. The view of Arthur's Seat was special, although it wasn't the full-on, centered view shown in the photos. The breakfast was good and plentiful; I especially appreciated that there was a lot of fresh fruit. It was helpful to be able to use the self-serve laundry facilities at a low price, and I appreciated the availability of a refrigerator in the shared kitchen at the end of the corridor. The young people in Reception were very helpful in answering my questions about the local bus, getting to the airport, etc. It was an interesting experience to stay in university accommodation.
Disliked: I knew this was budget lodging, so I didn't expect a premium mattress. However, I didn't expect a mattress as hard and lumpy as this one. The pillows were so old and flat that I had to stack up three of them to get to the level of one decent pillow. I did not sleep well on any of the three nights I was there and ended up exhausted. Also, the sheet had blue (ink?) stains, which was unacceptable. That sheet should not have been used on a guest bed. Even though the nights were cool, the room was hot because the window was restricted from opening more than a few inches. (In truth, I found hot interiors to be the case in Scotland generally, even though the weather was cool.) A fan would have helped greatly.

I would stay again

Liked: The rooms were clean and comfortable. First I was a bit afraid of the shared bathrooms but actually it wasn't a problem. Whenever I needed, I found an empty one just a few steps down on the corridor. The breakfast was plenty and delicious. I would stay again.
Disliked: As a university campus, young people were all around, which is a good thing, except late in the evening :) But they go to sleep at midnight the latest (I think they were in a camp and their teachers told them to be quiet) so that was not a serious problem.

Good

Disliked: I would say that the standard of room cleaning has declined (I have stayed here every summer since 2022 and noticed a difference this year). Everything else is great.
