Okay for a short stay...
Liked: The university and the area was very pretty and the staff was friendly and helpful. It was nice that there were elevators .
Disliked: The pillow had some hair on it and the chairs had stains. There was no hairdryer and the bathroom wasn't the cleanest. The breakfast was okay but nothing special.

It didn't feel like a...
Liked: I liked everything—from check-in to the comfortable bed. The internet connection dropped out from time to time. But do you go to Scotland to sit on the internet?
Disliked: In welcome message, I would write in more detail about where the reception is located.

Fantastic location, many friendly faces...
Liked: Staying at the University of Edinburgh was a wonderful and unique experience. Only about 5 bus stops from the historic city centre, I loved the quiet and green surroundings of this location. It's a sort of hostel++ experience, as there are so many useful facilities you don't get with a simple hotel room. Things like a small shop selling some simple items, a large cafeteria serving an excellent and free breakfast every morning, a few good quality and inexpensive restaurants, and the ability to do laundry on site made it an outstanding place to stay. You'll have to get used to going into the hallway to use a bathroom, but for me there was always one available and for the price I'd say that's a pretty good trade off. One enormous bonus for me was the location at the bottom of Holyrood Park - the hike to Arthur's Seat was a no brainer and so easy to do! I think I only took about 45 minutes from my 'dorm room' to the top, so that's pretty great.
Disliked: The bathrooms in my 'hall' were a little outdated, and some showers seemed slow to drain. The halls were not super sound proof, I was lucky to stay during a quiet time and my halls were not fully booked, but I can imagine hearing some noises from neighbours during more busy times.
