The Spotlight on Strathmore Hotel

Victorian Elegance Steps From London's Music Scene

A grand and elegant 4-star hotel in the heart of stylish Kensington, the Strathmore Hotel blends rich history with modern comfort. Once the residence of the Earl of Strathmore, this charming Victorian property now welcomes guests with free WiFi, beautifully appointed rooms, and classic British dining. Located just a short walk from Gloucester Road Underground Station, it's perfectly placed for easy access to London's most iconic live music venues and nightlife.

Why Concert-goers love it

The location is a major win – only 300 meters from the Tube, meaning you're quickly connected to venues across London. After the show, the serene Kensington neighborhood offers a peaceful, low-noise atmosphere for winding down. With a 14:00 check-in and 11:00 check-out, there's enough flexibility for those arriving early or catching a late show. The hotel’s historic charm adds a touch of luxury to any concert weekend.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a classy base near the action
- Solo travelers attending a long-awaited gig
- Couples planning a romantic concert weekend
- Fans seeking a quiet and elegant space to recharge
- Budget-conscious music lovers wanting 4-star value in a central location

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Earls Restaurant serves up contemporary British dishes with a focus on fine ingredients – perfect for a pre-show dinner. The Glamis Bar offers a cozy setting for cocktails and even a traditional afternoon tea. While the hotel doesn’t offer 24/7 room service or late-night dining, guests are within walking distance of several restaurants and cafés that stay open late. Breakfast is available in-house, ideal for those enjoying a slower morning after a big night out.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about elegance than energy, it’s just a short ride away from London’s liveliest nightlife hubs. Whether you’re headed to a well-known club or a hidden jazz bar, Kensington’s great transport links make it easy. For a quieter drink, the Glamis Bar’s classic cocktail list and ambient lighting offer a relaxing way to wind down without leaving the building.

What People Say

Guests love the hotel’s opulent character, the friendly and helpful staff, and its spotless rooms. Many reviews highlight how convenient it is for accessing both museums and music venues, with a peaceful setting that’s not far from the action. The elegant atmosphere and historic touches are frequently praised, giving the hotel a unique charm.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the rooms can be on the smaller side, and the historic building means soundproofing isn’t perfect. The vibe is more refined than party-focused, so if you’re looking for a buzzing post-concert scene in the lobby, this might feel a bit too quiet.

The Bottom Line

A refined and comfortable base in Kensington, the Strathmore Hotel is ideal for concert-goers who want easy London access with a touch of historic charm.

A lovely family break in...

Liked: The location was excellent and the staff were wonderful. The hotel needs some money spent on it. The room furniture is old and well past it's sell by date.
Disliked: The location and the staff.

Good

Liked: I like the hospitality of the receptionists as well as the female workers during breakfast in the restaurant.
Disliked: While everything else is more than excellent, I had a significant problem with the lack of air conditioning in the room. Once arrived, I found no air conditioning, but a fan was there. I contacted the receptionist and I was told that the room do not have air conditioning. On the first day, I used the fan and tried to keep the two windows half open to circulate air. On the second day evening and later, I had to stop the fan since the room is too small for. On the third day, I started to feel pain, fever, and headache as the start of a cold. On the last two days, I had to stay in the hotel all day since I started taking Panadol from the pharmacy for a cold and flu, and this prevented me from touring the city. This could have been prevented if the room had air conditioning.
