Disliked: To Whom It May Concern,Re: Formal Complaint and Request for Full Compensation – Accommodation BookingI am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a booking made through your platform, Booking.com, which resulted in an unacceptable experience that required me to urgently seek alternative accommodation at personal cost.The room I booked for $100 (Room 20) was wholly unfit for purpose and grossly misrepresented on your platform.Upon arrival, the accommodation presented numerous health and safety concerns, including but not limited to:• Exposed power points with visible wiring hanging from the wall• A sagging, unsanitary bed that was not fit for sleeping• Severely low or non-existent water pressure in the shower• Dirty, stained walls adjacent to the bedroom area• Peeling paint from the ceiling, posing potential respiratory risks• AC that was load and didn’t work.As a retired hospitality professional with over 38 years of experience—including tenure as Head Manager at the Orient Express’ Lillianfels, and the Fairmont Resort—I was appalled by the condition of this accommodation. Had I still been in service, I would have considered it a serious breach of guest safety and industry standards.Due to the unacceptable and potentially unsafe conditions of the room, I was forced to vacate the premises and secure alternative accommodation at a cost of $224, which I paid out of pocket that same evening. I am therefore requesting full compensation for both:• The original $100 paid for the uninhabitable room, and• The $224 incurred for urgent, alternative accommodation. Still of which I’m out of pocket due to the matter above, through your services.The conditions encountered are not only in breach of what was advertised through your platform but constitute a failure to provide a basic duty of care to your users.
