The Spotlight on Strathfield Hotel

Historic Charm Meets Concert Convenience in Sydney

Modern comfort inside a 1920s heritage building, the Strathfield Hotel is a laid-back, budget-friendly option located directly opposite Strathfield Railway Station. With easy train access to major concert venues like Olympic Park and central Sydney, it’s a smart base for music lovers. Simple but clean rooms, a welcoming bar and bistro, and a casual atmosphere make it a convenient stop for anyone coming into town for a show.

Why Concert-goers love it

Being right across from the train station means getting to and from venues is quick and stress-free—no rideshare surge pricing or late-night traffic snarls. Olympic Park is just a 10-minute drive or a short train ride away, making it ideal for gigs at major Sydney arenas. The hotel’s pub and lounge stay lively into the evening, but the rooms upstairs offer a quieter space to wind down post-show. Plus, with check-in starting at 14:00, there’s plenty of time to settle in before heading out.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for an affordable crash pad near the action
  • Solo travelers on a concert pilgrimage
  • Couples making a weekend out of a music event
  • Fans who prefer a chill, quieter space after the encore
  • Budget-conscious listeners who want value and location

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Bistro serves up crowd-pleasers like steaks, salads, and pasta every day for lunch and dinner—ideal for a hearty pre-show meal or refueling after. The Public Bar, Lounge Bar, and Beer Garden offer a solid selection of drinks, from beers to cocktails. While there’s no official room service or late-night menu, the central location means there are takeaway options nearby. Tea and coffee facilities are available on request, helpful for that post-gig wind-down or morning recharge.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel doesn’t offer live music on-site, it’s surrounded by local pubs and bars in Strathfield, and you’re only a short train ride from Sydney’s vibrant nightlife hubs. The hotel’s own bars are relaxed, with a classic Aussie pub vibe—perfect for a pre-concert pint or a low-key nightcap.

What People Say

Guests love the excellent location, especially the convenience of being steps from the train station. Many praise the friendly staff and the building’s old-school charm. The bistro gets good reviews for its affordable, tasty meals, and the bar area is a hit for those wanting to mingle before or after a show. Cleanliness and comfort are frequently noted as solid for the price.

Areas for Improvement

Some rooms have shared bathrooms, so if that’s a dealbreaker, be sure to book accordingly. The heritage building means no elevators—something to consider if you have heavy luggage or mobility concerns. Room décor is on the basic side, but functional for a short stay.

The Bottom Line

The Strathfield Hotel is a no-fuss, well-located option for concert-goers who want value, convenience, and a relaxed place to recharge after the show.

Waste of money

Liked: They have a policy that doesn’t let anyone under 21 check in but you can still book a room. Then when I couldn’t check in they tried charging me an extra $250 risk fee for me being under 18
