Christine, Sooke, visiting Capital Ballroom Victoria
I love staying at the Strathcona Hotel because it has so many options for food, socials and is close to all amenities in Victoria. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable, quiet, clean and reasonably priced.
Liked: The staff are super friendly, efficient and helpful.

Location, location, location.
Liked: The only negative was that the mattress was too small for the bed base. As the bed frame was a similar colour to the floor, it was hard to see, I hit my left shin bone 3 times on the very sharp corner of the bed base, I still have a bruise & a lump.

Good
Liked: Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was shiny bright and clean! Location was perfect.
Disliked: The room smelled like old cigarettes or something. It did fade away.

Fantastic place for a trip...
Liked: Location. Number of restaurants. Size of room
Disliked: Number of electrical receptacles by the Beds. Only had 1 between two beds.

We gave the hotel staff...
Liked: Bathroom and mattress
Disliked: City view nonexistent. Being lied to by the front desk manager. My wife and I are retired and on a fixed income, but since it was my wife's 66 birthday and we were staying in the hotel for three nights I splurged (according to our finances) for a larger room and a "city view". We received the first floor with a view of the street. When I asked for a different room the manager said "we booked through Booking.com" I asked "is that a problem" because it sounded like it by the way he said it. He then said the hotel was sold out and had no more rooms, but he would show us a room on the fourth floor with a better view for an upcharge of $40 per night or $120 plus tax. we declined due to budget restraints. We then went to our room where I went on Booking.com and saw that there were rooms available on the site and I also went on the Hotel's web site and saw they were still offering rooms. Later that evening at 9:30 I asked the front desk clerk the status of the occupancy and he said there were still rooms available. It seems we were punished for booking through Booking.com and not booking directly. Our room was right above the liquor and wine store which was open late at night. I have included a photo of the window from outside out room it is the one on the lower left-hand corner with the drapes open.
