Liked: Fantastic location, set an older part of the city, with access to both the city centre and castle. Check-In was simple, Lorraine was extremely lovely. All staff appeared happy to be back at work and offered such friendly service. At dinner, our server Alison (very friendly!!) offered us a mocktail (in lieu of a boozy drink) to celebrate our honeymoon, which was most appreciated. The one way system in place for Covid was a good preventative measure, but in such a vast building we were often confused if we were going the right way or not. Big bottles of water provided in room, still and sparkling which is always welcome.Although the continental breakfast selection was disappointing, the cooked breakfast was very good. Ordering was easy, simply tick the box on a sheet of paper what you'd like. Hot, fast and tasty!!!Swimming free is an option for hotel guests, just book your slot - don't forget your swim suit like we did though!!The DBB gives you £27pp to put towards food, so make sure you're hungry when you go as we couldn't manage three courses!! Colonel burger was my fave, delicious
Disliked: Upon booking, I mentioned we were on honeymoon and requested to be upgraded to one of the better rooms (at our own cost) I don't think this was one of the better rooms!!! Premium Room was dated and the small boxy bathroom had a cracked sink.We had draughty windows and extremely noisy guests upstairs, thumping on the floor, dragging things, running (almost like someone left their children in the room alone to entertain themselves?) which made for two very fraught afternoons where we just couldn't relax - I tried to phone reception several times but there was never an answer. No lightbulb in one of the lights above bed (easily missed though), which I forgot to mention at check out.No cold meats/cheese selection for continental breakfast (unsure if this is a new C19 restriction as had a similar issue at the previous hotel.

Not educated on rules and...
Liked: Car park
Disliked: We were travelling to look for a new house which was totally within the co-vid regulations as we checked before hand before we booked Two weeks earlier then on the day got a call from hotel staff telling us it was only for essential workers (bearing in mind we travelled from England) I had to point out the official gov.Scot website and educate them about the actual law and not just an opinion then we were supposed to get a deluxe room which was poor and dusty wouldn?t stay again
