Average Hotel, Lovely Staff

Liked: The staff were super friendly and helpful which has improved my rating significantly. The room was comfortable and the bed comfy. Sheets were fresh. Pleasant surroundings and quiet area. Stayed for TruckFest and it was a 5 minute walk to the site entrance which was fab. Price for the stay was more expensive than usual because of this reason.
Disliked: Unfortunately during my stay my room (19) flooded due to a leak from the waste pipe in the room above, water came through the lights which is no one faults however looking at the fittings in the bathroom (shower rail, hose, radiator) they were rusted through, so I think this has been leaking on and off for a while and not taken seriously. The mouldy shower curtain and bathroom silicone could also do with being re done to freshen it up. I’m a plumber so perhaps I notice these things more than the average guest. Following the leak I was promptly moved to room 12 but this also clearly had ongoing leak issues; the toilet cistern leaked all over the floor every time I flushed, again this is historical because all the skirtings were blown and rotten. Needs ripping off and fixing. The shower area was poorly sealed in the corners meaning all water saturated the bedroom/living area wall behind. Shower needs sealing properly and the plaster hacking off in the bedroom.

Liked: The location is near to a main road, but the traffic noise was minimal. There is ample free parking. Rooms were a good size, but we did not eat there as the choice was limited to Indian cuisine. Unfortunately there is not a lot more I can say that is good about the place.
Disliked: Apart from the reception area which is very nice and airy, the rest of the hotel left us disappointed. We had 2 rooms opposite each other on the first floor, the room we were in had tears in the net curtains, the door would not look as the lock was broken, the bathroom could have done with more attention to cleaning as it was very grubby in parts. The room which my son and wife were in, was equally disappointing with very large damp stains on the ceiling and walls, and equally grubby stains in the bathroom. The rooms really could do with refurbishing to bring them up to a better standard. The restaurant looked nice and clean, but we did not eat there. There is no breakfast available at this hotel, I do not think I have ever stayed in a hotel where there is no breakfast option available. Check out was not a problem because you just left your key in a box on the reception desk as reception was not manned in the morning, in fact the whole place in the morning was deserted.Sorry to say but for the price we paid we were left very disappointed and would certainly not stay there again, or recommend it to family or friends

Liked: Comfortable bed, modern bathroom fittings.
Disliked: Stains on ceiling of room & shower room. Broken central pendant multi shade broken light held with cello tape, bedside lamp not working, shower extractor not working. Shower room a little grubby, dusty , some tiling a mouldy. needs a deep clean including door cleaning finger marks/staining.

Liked: The room was clean and well decorated.The bed was really comfortable. The meal in the restaurant was excellent and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The building is well decorated and in a great location for visiting the Didcot Railway Centre.
Disliked: Lack of cooked breakfast was disappointing but the complimentary continental breakfast was adequate.
