The Spotlight on Sterling Hotel

Classic Comfort Steps from Sacramento’s Music Scene

Located in the heart of downtown Sacramento, the Sterling Hotel blends timeless charm with modern convenience. Just minutes from major concert venues and the buzzing cultural core, this boutique-style hotel offers air-conditioned rooms, free WiFi, and a relaxing hot tub — ideal after a big night out. Whether you're in town for a show or a weekend escape, you'll be well-placed to enjoy the best of the city.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’re never far from the action here — top venues like the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium and Golden 1 Center are within walking distance or a quick ride away. After the encore, come home to a quiet, comfortable room with a private bathroom and flat-screen TV. With late check-out at 12:00, there’s no rush in the morning. The hotel’s central location also means easy access to late-night ride shares and local eats.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for walkable nightlife and shared spaces
  • Solo travelers catching a must-see show
  • Couples making a romantic weekend out of a concert date
  • Fans needing a peaceful recovery space after a loud night
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want value without sacrificing location

Food and Drink Options

While Sterling Hotel doesn't have on-site dining, its downtown location places you just steps from plenty of late-night eateries, coffee shops, and restaurants offering breakfast well into the late morning. Several nearby spots are open late, so you won’t go hungry after the final encore.

Nightlife Options

Though the hotel itself is more about rest than revelry, you’re just a short stroll or rideshare away from Sacramento’s buzzing nightlife. Live music bars, local breweries, and cocktail lounges are all within easy reach, making it easy to keep the night going.

What People Say

  • Guests love the central location and how easy it is to reach concert venues and downtown attractions
  • Spacious, clean rooms and friendly staff get frequent praise
  • Many reviewers mention the hotel’s charming, historic feel as a unique bonus

Areas for Improvement

The hotel doesn’t have an on-site restaurant or bar, which could be a slight downer if you're hoping for room service after midnight. And while the historic charm is a plus for many, some rooms may feel a bit dated to those used to ultra-modern spaces.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to Sacramento for live music, Sterling Hotel offers comfort, location, and character just minutes from the city's top venues.

Noisy and uncomfortable

Liked: Wonderful jetted tub in a luxurious, clean bathroom with a rarely provided convenience of a towel rail! The room was spacious with a large closet and conveniently located within walking distance of the convention center and some good restaurants.
Disliked: Room 102. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable with support for the mattress only down the middle. When my husband sat on his side of the bed his butt traveled all the way to the floor and several times the bed spat him out onto the floor while he was sleeping. The venue only has single paned windows so it got very noisy, especially with the hotel's proximity to a busy fire station. The venue hosts weddings and the noise level from that is crazy. One of the wedding rooms was right next to our room, at one point we couldn't access our room due to the wedding party waiting to be let into the room. I didn't appreciate the staff standing right below our window at 1.30am talking and laughing loudly after their cleanup followed by someone vacuuming the hallway outside our room at 3.30am! The staff were rarely at the reception window, little to no refreshments available, access to the ADA entrance and elevator required a special key card that was not available until we could find a staff member days after check-in. The sink didn't drain properly. The TV was tiny with a wimpy, tinny speaker that made it quite unwatchable. I would definitely NOT stay here again.

Liked: I liked the people, especially the ones who worked at my daughter's wedding. Very personal and accommodating. Front desk lady very friendly and helpful. I like the home feeling they made it feel like.
Disliked: Downtown. Ha, I'm not a fan of it, but that's normal for downtowns. Parking isn't fun. The price could be better.
