Motel 6 in Compton would’ve...
Liked: Quaint turn of the Century, boutique hotel in Chautauqua Institute
Disliked: Owner Helen Edington offered a full refund of our $446 stay if I removed my previous review. I complied with her request, never received a PENNY of refund. So here I am. Back at it to hopefully dissuade another hardworking person from making the mistake of booking a room at this hotel. It is In desperate need of a complete overhaul, renovation, thorough repairs, deep cleaning. Owner is in way over her head. Incapable of maintaining the necessary maintenance and cleanliness to keep what was once a magnificent and grand hotel worthy of your hard earned money. Hair stuck to the shower wall, horrible water pressure, impossible to regulate hot/cold shower temperature, frosted over mini fridge from 1960, disgusting filthy carpet. Sleeping on a park bench would’ve been a better option.

Beautiful old hotel
Liked: The Spencer is a beautiful old hotel. Comfortable beds, wonderful breakfast and friendly staff. And while we were there, friendly fellow visitors. More like staying at someone's very large house...
Disliked: It is old, so expect floors to creak in places and walls may be a bit thin.

Very disappointed!
Liked: The inn was quaint and charming with a great location. Dick was very friendly. The dining area was especially attractive, but we never ate there even though breakfast was available.
Disliked: Upon arrival, we were told room the we had booked on line was no longer available so we were taken to another room which was supposed to be a standard room. My wife and I were astounded! While the room was quaint, it was as small a room as as we had ever seen. We each had 2 small suitcases and had absolutely no place to put them. There was barely room to walk around the bed. The bathroom was like a tiny closet. Adding to the claustrophobia, the room was extremely stuffy and the windows could not be opened they were sealed shut and there was no personal a/c to access. When we asked about getting a fan, one was not available. Our first response, was to find a new hotel, but our stay was not refundable, so I asked if any larger rooms were available. Since it was not at all busy, we were taken to one which was a bit larger. Its windows were also sealed shut and was very warm and stuffy, but we were told it would cool off in about an hour which it did only slightly. Later, we learned from the only two other guests we saw there, that were also quite uncomfortable. The space in this room was adequate but still small. Since there was not room on the sides of the bed for a nightstand, we had to turn our small suitcases on end to have a place needed for the items one would normally place there. After our first night, Helen told us there was an additional charge for this room of $25 per night which, under the circumstances, we found shocking. An additional charge for basic comfort, especially when the inn had almost no guests and other options were available, seemed VERY small! All all, we would not stay here again.
