This was a very humid...
Liked: The breakfast wasn't what I expected for the cost of the hotel rooms, I do understand that it is a continental breakfast but at least there could have been some sort of waffles or pancakes availiable for the cost. And the bagels were stale and not fresh as expected. The dining room was very clean and perfect!
Disliked: This was my first experience at a Sparks hotel, selected due to its 4.2 overall rating on Booking.com. However, my experience differed from the expectation set by that rating. My reservation was initially made for July 4th, but after completing the booking, the date changed to July 5th. As a result, I did not attend the fireworks show, which was the main reason for planning the Norfolk/Virginia Beach weekend trip.Secondly, our appointment specified a 4:00 pm check-in, but although we arrived at 5:30 pm, our rooms were still not ready. Additionally, the receptionist or manager appeared to lack courtesy and was unhelpful when I inquired about the military discount. Despite my reservation for two King bedrooms, which were unavailable upon arrival, I was offered two Queen rooms that were also not ready and no compensation was provided, as the booking was made through a third-party application. When I requested information about a possible refund for the delay, I was informed that refunds could not be issued. My colleague, who manages a similar business, intervened to discuss proper protocol and assist in resolving the situation.Following the earlier discussion, a rebate was issued and we agreed to accept two queen rooms. Unfortunately, both rooms were excessively humid and had a noticeable stale odor, which required staff intervention for deodorization. Additionally, one of the air conditioning units failed overnight, resulting in an uncomfortable and restless night due to the humidity. These issues contributed to an unsatisfactory experience at Sparks Hotel in Norfolk, Virginia. My room, which was adjacent, also posed security concerns as I could not lock the deadbolt; however, it was otherwise acceptable, though not representative of the standards typically associated with Hilton or newer brands such as TRU Hotel. As a Hilton member, I was disappointed by both the hotel's facilities and the management.
