Disappointing
Liked: The check in
Disliked: Dinner reservation had been made and paid for, and placement of table was well below par for a 5 star hotel. It was set off from the other tables - a 6 seater table set for two behind the cutlery and condiment section with a ghetto blaster delivering music to the whole dinner area. Staff were argumentative regarding the discussion. A table was later offered to us at 2145 after having reserved at 2030. Areas were closed off due to "functions" however there were no functions it was simply to avoid having to clean the area - it limited where one could sit and relax. There was flower remains all over the floor and staff were aware of this and didnt make an effort to clean it up. The restaurants were clearly closed as dinner was served outside and doors were barricaded with furniture as opposed to just being closed. Very disappointing overall.

Not what it used to...
Liked: Loved that we had sky sports in our room and the room was very large with 2 bath tubs in the bathroom but I did pay 525 for one night without breakfast
Disliked: Have been before the spa was built and loved it. Now the spa is there is now more expensive but the service is no where near what it used to be. Waited over 20 minutes for a coffee order and had to ask staff to chase. My breakfast was awful. Poached eggs were so u der cooked only the outside was white the egg itself was uncooked. The meal at the botanica was also not what I had experienced previously felt very rushed and was uncomfortable due to the smell of body odour from those in the gym. Would have eaten in the camelia but is closed on a Sunday and the pass tasting menu did not offer any vegetarian option so had no choice but to eat in the botanica. Becoming more like pennyhill it's sister hotel which i dislike as its all about the spa and not the beautiful service and location and customer satisfaction that south lodge once held in abundance

Beautiful hotel, grounds and Spa
Liked: This is our 3rd time visiting South Lodge and the Spa. Beautiful building and grounds and definitely feels like a treat as soon as you pull into the car park. The hotel is very well maintained and presented. The Spa is excellent and spotless and we all loved our treatments. The food both in the Botanica and Camilla restaurant are of very high quality.
Disliked: Some of the staff were not as customer centred as they have been previous visits. Not rude but definite improvements could be made. We had a misunderstanding on our original booking which we had to cancel and rebook and I found the girl I dealt with on the phone to be obtuse and not motivated to try to secure for us the best deal for our party of 4. Also in the Camilla restaurant we were presented with a set menu £90 for 3 courses. No one in our group would be able for 3 courses, so we had to ask the price for 1 or 2 courses. In the end 2 of us had 2 courses at £75 pp and 2 of us had just one course at £50 pp. £50 for one course (very small portion sizes so thank goodness for the delicious complimentary bread) is extortionate and we felt taken advantage of on what was already a very expensive break. £2,400 for 4 people which included 2 rooms, 4 treatments, lunch on day of arrival, dinner in Camilla, after dinner drink in the bar and coffee before we left.
