Sonesta ES Suites Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile - Medical

Booked a room on 8/25/14 for a concert on 10/18/14. Called twice that day to confirm my reservation since I booked so far in advance. We showed up to check into the hotel a half an hour before we had to be at the show, only for the front desk to tell me the hotel was full and that they did not have a room for us to stay in. They offered us a room 20 miles away - I told them that was not going to work because we were out of town and had not only booked in advance, but called twice that day to confirm. They could not tell me why someone didn't mention this issue during the two prior calls that day. They ended up finding us a room next door and it worked out OK, but it took them almost 25 minutes to rectify the situation and we were late for the concert. Overall they did fix the issue but am not satisfied with the lack of communication, and the fact I watched them check in three additional customers after they told us they were at capacity.

Liked: The room had a nice lay out, the shower was very nice loved the glass door and stand up shower bathroom was spacious, and liked there was full body mirror to see in. My Husband said the room was cute! 98% was clean and had a nice view. The room welcomed you by the T.V being on saying welcome with your name on it. Hotel was easy to get to. Velvet parking was nice and the Velvet's where nice and informative. It was nice that they had lemon water for the guests, and had complamentry coffee and tea also. They also had a reasonable snack selection area that wasn't to expensive. I also like that they dont charge extra for using the coffee in the rooms like some hotels do. Was also nice that there was free complimentary breakfast.
Disliked: I'm not a fan of spiders, and there was a black spider in our room webed in the middle window eek. Also webs on the end windows up in the corners. There also was a decent amount of spiders under the awning going into the hotel. I do understand that the hotel is a little closer to the lake but maybe take a little extra effort to keep them clear, and clean window seals in the rooms more thorough. Our thermostat in our room 1711 I believe we where in, you couldn't fully read it to see what temp we where at, so I ended up just putting it on auto and just hoped for the best. Breakfast was nice, but when we moved two tables that where together apart so a couple could have room to sit, there was a decent amount of fruit flys that started flying around. Also the sit down part of the chairs had grease marks that I had to wipe away before sitting, maybe from kids touching them after eating there bacon? Minor things but some things. Overall experience was good.

Liked: The room was large and comfortable. The hotel is in close proximity to many things to do and transportation.
Disliked: The breakfast was okay, wish there were more choices. There were no extra blankets provided in the room.
