The Spotlight on Somerset - A Private Retreat

Peaceful Luxury Just Minutes from the Music

Modern comfort meets timeless charm at Somerset - A Private Retreat, a 5-star bed and breakfast nestled in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Surrounded by lush gardens, lake views, and a serene private beach, this elegant retreat offers a quiet, upscale vibe that’s perfect for recharging after a night of live music. With air-conditioned rooms, free WiFi, and a private bathroom in every unit, guests enjoy both comfort and privacy just a short drive from various concert venues in the Niagara region.

Why Concert-goers love it

After an epic show, you’ll appreciate the peaceful setting and cozy atmosphere here. It’s far enough from the noise to guarantee a good night’s sleep, but still an easy drive or ride-share from key venues in and around Niagara Falls. The flexible check-in at 15:00 gives you time to settle in before heading out, and the 11:00 check-out means there’s no rush the next morning. Plus, with private parking, it’s a breeze to come and go on your own schedule.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a stylish and quiet landing pad
  • Solo travelers attending bucket-list concerts
  • Couples making a romantic music weekend of it
  • Fans who prefer to unwind in nature after the show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers seeking value in a premium setting

Food and Drink Options

If you’ve been out late, you’ll love the generous à la carte and continental breakfast served with fresh pastries, fruit, and warm dishes—perfect for a slow morning after a big night. While there’s no 24/7 room service, your room includes a fridge, minibar, and coffee machine for snacks and drinks at any hour. Plus, you’re just a short stroll or bike ride from local eateries and wineries—ideal for pre-show dinners or post-concert bites.

Nightlife Options

While Somerset itself is a retreat from the buzz, you’re never far from the action. Nearby, Niagara-on-the-Lake offers charming pubs, wine bars, and lounges with live music and a laid-back vibe. For a more energetic scene, Niagara Falls is just a quick drive away and offers bustling nightlife and clubs.

What People Say

Guests rave about the peaceful setting, friendly hosts, and the beautiful views of the lake. Many highlight the comfortable beds, elegant décor, and the feeling of being “a world away” while still close to entertainment. The breakfasts consistently earn top marks for both quality and presentation.

Areas for Improvement

If you're looking for a party atmosphere or want to be steps from a venue, this isn't the spot. It’s a quieter, nature-focused stay, and late-night options on-site are limited. Also, while the location is scenic, those without a car may find transport options a bit tricky late at night.

The Bottom Line

If you're a concert-goer who loves the energy of live music but craves a calm, upscale space to relax afterward, Somerset - A Private Retreat is a perfect fit.

Gorgeous views and comfortable accommodations...

Liked: The host was warm and interesting. The room was very comfortable. The complimentary snacks and wine are lovely touches. The view is gorgeous. The couple we ate breakfast with was very friendly and interesting.
Disliked: Would have liked different toiletries and more hooks for towels etc. Some fresh fruit or vegetables at breakfast would have been a bonus, as well as a little menu/preview of the food to be served.

Enjoyable stay in a spacious...

Liked: Picturesque location with lovely view from the spacious room. Breakfast was a huge spread, more like brunch. Friendly and welcoming staff.
Disliked: The price was rather high but this was probably due to the timing as it was during the eclipse. The breakfast was delicious, but a bit heavy on pastries, with croissants and custard tarts, but no toast.

A perfect break

Liked: There are so many things to say about this property. However I have had to shorten review as ran out of space! Firstly, if you are looking and wondering if it is worth it and should you book - do book, it is worth it. My husband and I wanted something in the region as a base for wine tasting, the falls etc. I wanted some space and didnt want a hotel room. Somerset was perfect. Many reviews refer to Darren - he is just lovely and so welcoming. Nothing is a problem and generally he is a joy to chat with and has such an interesting background. The room was lovely and large, beautifully decorated and with a terrace to sit out on. There is a large common area downstairs. What is so special about Somerset is the large lawn down onto the lakefront. Sitting down there was lovely and my husband even talked me into a swim on one of the days. Very much well worth it and I think a special thing to do - looking at out Fort Erie. Breakfast is a tour de force. Just to note, breakfast is at 9am and sitting with the other guests. I didnt realise when I booked so was a little surprised however - if you need breakfast earlier I am sure Darren would assist - but other than this - do it. The other guests were a total joy to chat to in the morning - swapping stories as to where you are from, what you have done and where you are going. It was such a pleasant surprise that I was not expecting and both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was exceptional - come hungry - there were pastries, freshly baked bread and a lovely cooked breakfast to boot. Each day was totally different and totally tasty. Some other reviews mentioned taking your shoes off and how they dont appreciate it. Personally I didnt care about that and actually, this is a lovely house and not traipsing through dirt etc is a good thing and it makes it all feel more homely. The location was excellent right in the middle of it all. We would go back in a heartbeat.
Disliked: There isnt anything. Darren was a wonderful host and really helpful. I struggle to think of anything to say that we disliked.
