Check-in starts at 15:00 and check-out is at 10:00.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’re just a short walk or quick ride from some of Edinburgh’s top music venues. Whether you're heading to a packed arena show or a cozy club gig, getting there is easy thanks to the hostel’s central location. After the show, you can return to a buzzing atmosphere at Bar50, or retreat to your room for some quiet downtime. The hostel's flexible mix of room types also makes it easy to travel with friends or go solo.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a lively, budget-friendly base
  • Solo travelers chasing a dream setlist
  • Couples wanting to mix music with a city break
  • Fans who need a quieter space after the encore
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who don’t want to skimp on location or atmosphere

Food and Drink Options

Bar50 offers casual dining and drinks until late, and there are plenty of walkable food options nearby for pre-concert meals or late-night bites. Breakfast is available and served with the understanding that not everyone is an early riser—great news after a late gig. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the hostel vibe means food and conversation are just outside your door.

Nightlife Options

Bar50 isn’t just convenient—it’s one of Edinburgh’s well-known nightlife spots, with themed nights and events. Plus, you’re just steps from the city’s best pubs, clubs, and live music venues. Whether you're in the mood for chill craft beers or a full-blown afterparty, you’ll find something nearby.

What People Say

Guests love the friendly staff, central location, and sociable atmosphere. Many mention how easy it is to meet fellow travelers, and how the hostel balances fun with comfort. Reviews often highlight the clean rooms, good shower pressure, and the energetic but safe environment.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms can be a bit noisy if you're right above the bar or near a busy hallway—bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Also, the 10:00 check-out might feel a bit early after a long night, but it's manageable with a good coffee from the bar.

The Bottom Line

A fun, affordable, and perfectly located base for music fans who want to soak up Edinburgh’s concert scene without missing a beat.

Very bad service received from...

Liked: The location of the property was very good and central. However, the staff was absolutely terrible and quite rude. We felt humiliated and sensed that the receptionist may have had a bias against us. He was unhelpful and showed very little interest in assisting us. Honestly, I find it hard to recommend this hostel to others because of the appalling service I received from this receptionist.
Disliked: The receptionist who was at the duty at that time. A white male gentleman with a height of about 5.7cm. We checked in around 7:30pm in the evening

Good

Liked: Perfect location within a short walking distance to the old town city centre. The room was well sized and clean. The staff were very helpful and polite. The hostel also has a nice bar and beer garden area .
Disliked: Although the room was very clean, the beds were very uncomfortable and cheap. The noise was pretty loud until late coming from the bar area; it is normal as it is a youth hostel but you do have to take it into account.

We'll look to stay at...

Liked: Comfy bed in a quiet room
Disliked: Poorly appointed room (although the room had a pointless additional 3 beds in the room), dreadful breakfast with no staff showing any interest in the empty food trays. Price was outrageous for the accommodation.

Frat House: do not recommend.

Liked: The hotel was located near the mile which made it convenient for walking everywhere.
Disliked: This was like staying in a frat house. The downstairs bar was “open” until 1am however people were singing and screaming from the courtyard until well after 3am both nights. I imagine if you were visiting to party it was fine, but traveling as a family it was pretty terrible. The rooms are small of course (couldn’t even walk around the bed), but the condition of the room I could tolerate. The karaoke right outside our window for hours even on weeknights was a bit much.

Fear price, good location, no...

Liked: It’s well located, under 100m from the royal mile peatonal centre. Friendly staff 24/7 and really pet friendly. It’s got a reasonable price in a city where prices are crazy, just don’t expect more than a youth hostel.
Disliked: The rooms are quite small, you’ve got almost no space to go around the double bed. The beds are quite unsteady and noisy. The windows are all secured so there’s no chance of getting some fresh air in the room.
