Fabulous hotel, great location, attentive...
Liked: Fabulous hotel, clean room and great location. Staff were excellent, particularly the Manager, David and receptionist, Summer. Food was exceptional, fabulous chef, Jake. Beautiful grounds, so well kept. Spa was great, we had the pool to ourselves in the afternoon, all in all a lovely weekend stay! Definitely recommend… if it’s good enough for Elizabeth I and Thomas Seckford, then it’s certainly worth a visit!

An enjoyable mini break, but...
Liked: The staff who we met were lovely - friendly, professional and helpful. The hotel is beautiful. It's so characterful and so full of history. We enjoyed spending time in the spa. It was a rare treat for me and my husband to get away, so relaxing and having a bit of time doing nothing was important.
Disliked: When we went to bed, we were surprised to hear music, loud talking and bashing and scraping. It sounded like staff working underneath our room. We already had the windows shut as the fans/air conditioning unit on the roof outside our window was noisy, but it was still clearly heard. It continued until just before midnight. I understand that staff may have to work late but I think they should be sensitive to the fact that guests are above them and keep noise levels to a minimum.In the morning, I went for a shower. After standing in there for quite some time, trying the shower dial both ways, I failed to get any hot water. I decided to try a bath - no hot water. We realised that the basin wasn't running hot either. By this time, I was fairly wet, so had a very quick and extremely chilly wash! There were other minor issues during our stay - one jacuzzi wasn't working, so it meant that people were waiting to use the working one. Our bedroom had cake sprinkles all over the sofa (though these were quickly cleared away). We also found a large pin on the carpet. What disappointed me most about all these fairly minor issues was that there was noone who could deal with them. There was no manager present and no explanation for the cold water or the noise at night (possibly come from events staff). I was presented with a card and told that I should email. Despite an automated email stating that I would get a response within 5 working days, I had to chase the response. When a response came, I was told by the new general manager that, as he hadn't been in post when I stayed, he was unable to find anything out! He did offer a complimentary upgrade to my next stay but, funnily enough, I can't afford (time or money wise) another stay there in the next 12 months, so will be unable to make use of this. All I was really after was an apology and maybe my glass of wine knocked off the bill. This could have been resolved before I left the hotel!
