Mixed experience.

Liked: Excellent location. Staff upon arrival very attentive. Smooth check in. Rooms and hotel itself spotlessly clean.
Disliked: No communication between foh staff and kitchen at breakfast. Wrong meals served then served 20 minutes after my partner had finished theirs. Quite shambolic for a 5* hotel. Service needs to improve.Curtains in bedroom hanging off rail at one end, letting light stream through disrupted sleep.

Liked: Welcome drink - nice touch.Valet parking.Reception and bar staff.Manager of Ondine (very professional after such a poor experience).
Disliked: Generally there wasn’t much atmosphere in the hotel. room was small but functional. Both days breakfasts, lots of issues..stale brioche burger bun used for the bacon roll, only streaky bacon available and when asked for it to be cooked very crispy it came almost uncooked, sent back and then came back again still with white fat throughout 50% of the bacon. On both days, on our second coffee by the time the cooked breakfasts arrived. Matchbox size slices of toast. Not what a hotel of this standard should be. Dinner at Ondine - restaurant was so cold that people were sitting with their jackets on, food disappointing (langoustine cocktail with 3 small pieces of prawns but massive bits of lettuce, monkfish was soggy and only tasted of lime, battered cod was far too salty), in addition, poor serving staff.

Excellent location and setting although...

Liked: The location was excellent. A short distance from the Old Course and thankfully found a parking space. Room of excellent quality with a very nice shower and room.
Disliked: The breakfast facility could have been improved with a further choice of cereals and bread/rolls/a toaster to make your own toast to your specified crispness/texture. Also I think a buffet service option regarding the hot food option although this may not be possible because of the size of the dining room.

Disliked: Room 205. It was very lacking for female visitors. There was no chair; there were no shelves to put hair products on. There was only one mirror which happened to be full-length and was useless for doing make-up or hair. Suggest room designer for room 205 spends 3 nights there with a partner and all luggage, (no external bolt-hole), and see how they cope.
