Good management and a good...

Liked: Despite being a hotel, the twin room we had appeared to be freshly painted and the bathroom clean although shower door not quite working properly. The kitchen and lounge area was clean and large. Internet worked well in that room. The property was cheap and in Thurso, handy to our ferry connection.
Disliked: The place was gloomy and no staff on duty. You had to phone for someone to come to let you in. Person who came wasn't particularly welcoming. Fridges in the common kitchen, although plugged in, were not cold - so we didn't feel comfortable leaving our food there. Kitchen had to be accessed by going outdoors and climbing to a second floor door which was locked (you had a key). Although beds appeared to be new, the sheets barely covered the mattresses. One bed squeaked horribly every time you moved.

Good host, breakfast, kitchen

Liked: Welcoming host. Warm and comfortable room. Good value for a private room. Breakfast of toasts, spreads, cereal, milk including non-dairy, fruit juice. Good kitchen for cooking a meal. Location town centre. On street parking close by.
Disliked: Good value town hostel.

Simple and great place for...

Liked: The owner is very friendly and will always be available to help you in case of need. The hostel is well located within the center of Thurso, close to coop supermarket to buy groceries that you can easily use with the kitchen. The rooms and overall structure is safe, warm and cleaned daily.
Disliked: When you first arrive, the reception seems like it is not being in use for quite a while and you might feel lost. Make sure to either call the numbers provided or knock at the owners door next to the outside stairs to reach the rooms, he will welcome you warmly. As a whole some extra comfort is maybe lacking, but for a hostel and for the price (£25 per bed per night) you really can't get better than this.

Liked: Fantastic location, opposite the fish and chip shop, next door to the Chinese takeaway and Indian takeaway. Owners keep fridge full of essentials for breakfast which is included in the price. Wonderful kitchen eating area
Disliked: Can't be helped but the wooden floors installed across the whole 1st floor were quite creaky/noisy so everytime someone walked past our room during the night we could hear them
