Suited our needs.
Liked: The pleasant staff. Cute suite with everything. Convenience of location.
Disliked: The blue light from the TV streaming across the bed at night. Steep cost added for parking.

Crime taints otherwise pleasant stay
Liked: I stayed here with my partner overnight on 1/4/19. Overall, our stay here was very pleasant. The room was a good size. It was well kept and thoroughly cleaned. The staff were courteous and friendly. The location is great, right on Davie street, close to lots of bars and clubs, restaurants and fun sightseeing locations such as Stanley Park. My partner and I had a fabulous time staying here.
Disliked: The issue that we had was that my partner?s vehicle, which was kept in the hotel underground parking lot, got broken into, and my backpack with valuables and sensitive documents were stolen. The Duty Manager helped us file a police report and walked through the garage to see if he could find any traces of the items that were stolen from my vehicle. The only criticism that I have with the way the hotel staff managed the situation is that, as my partner and I were checking out, we stated in front of the 2 staff who were working the front desk, that we were planning to leave some of our belongings in his car. I would have appreciated a reminder from at least one of the staff about the dangers of leaving our belongings in the car, especially since they have had incidents there before. However, neither said a word of caution to either of us. The other criticism I have is with the level of security of the parking garage. There are very few cameras in the parking garage, primarily only at the exits. When we spoke with the police, they stated that because there was no video footage of the vehicle being broken into, they would not be able to assign an officer to investigate. After the police report, the Duty Manager did inform us that this area in Vancouver has a high crime rate and that it is only getting worse.

Beautiful views and lobby area,...
Liked: Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Lobby area is beautiful. Check in was pleasant. Parking is only $20/night, which is the cheapest of any downtown Vancouver hotel. Kitchenette was very nice in our suite, water pressure was great in the shower despite us being up high on the 20th floor, bed was very comfortable, and the view (we were city-facing) was STUNNING!
Disliked: Other than the main features (kitchenette, view, good staff), pretty much every little thing went wrong. Don't let the fancy lobby, the nice view and the high cost per night fool you- this is very much a typical mid-range Sandman hotel. Functionally: The room is quite cold in the winter, even with the heat on full blast in the main living area, because the entire suite relies on one 2-foot long wall heater which barely ekes out enough heat to warm the corner it's in. The TV in the living room is snowy on pretty much every channel, it cuts out sometimes randomly, and only half the buttons on the remote even work. The TV in the bedroom didn't work at all. The kitchen faucet only gave us warm water...could not get a cold drink of water from it. The bedroom window is VERY thin and we both woke up early in the morning, unable to fall back asleep, because even with earplugs in you hear everything that's happening on the street below as if it is right next to your window- dogs barking, trucks backing up, cars honking, people shouting. I can't remember ever sleeping in such a noisy hotel room in Canada. I'm sure this could be fixed by installing double-pane windows but as that's an extremely expensive undertaking, it's doubtful that it will change. Ordered room service, nachos and fried chicken. It arrived 45 minutes later, freezing cold. Just one more thing, of course. Aesthetically: The bathroom door was bloated and bubbling under the paint due to the bathroom humidity (probably needs to be replaced entirely), the wallpaper peels in parts. Honestly, if I had noticed all of these "little things" from the start, I would have requested to switch rooms, but I doubt it would have helped. Sandman is Sandman, even if you pay them $300 a night you still end up with non-functional TVs, a cold room and every single little thing going wrong. I will not being staying at this hotel again.
