Samesun San Francisco Guest Reviews
Write a review
Modern and casual, Samesun San Francisco is a welcoming 3-star hostel located on Lombard Street—just a short walk from Ghirardelli Square, Coit Tower, and the waterfront. With clean, air-conditioned rooms, private bathrooms, and free WiFi, it’s a smart pick for travelers who want to stay close to the action without stretching their budget.
This hostel's location puts you within easy reach of legendary San Francisco venues and nightlife hotspots. You can walk or grab a quick ride to Pier 39 or North Beach for shows and events. Post-concert, you'll appreciate the quiet side-street location—far enough from the late-night buzz for a good night’s sleep. With check-in available from 3:00 PM and checkout by 11:00 AM, there's enough flexibility for most show schedules.
Guests can enjoy a continental breakfast on-site—ideal for refueling after a late night. While there’s no full restaurant, you’re steps away from a wide range of walkable eateries and cafés in the Marina District and North Beach. From pizza to poke, there’s no shortage of quick bites before or after your concert.
While Samesun doesn’t have its own bar or live music space, you’re in luck—some of the city’s best bars and lounges are just blocks away. Head to Polk Street or the Wharf for craft cocktails, dive bars, or late-night karaoke. Perfect for keeping the vibe going after the encore.
This is still a hostel, so don’t expect luxury finishes or room service. Some guests note that the rooms can feel compact, and street noise may be noticeable in certain areas. That said, the location and price more than make up for it for most travelers.
Samesun San Francisco is a clean, convenient, and affordable base for concert-goers who want to stay near the music without breaking the bank.

Horrible
Liked: I booked through Booking.com, expecting a hotel, but it turned out that it was a hostel. I reserved a double room with balcony. It was not worth the money. Even though I had posted a "Do not disturb" sign on the door, the cleaning staff opened it and entered. Despite the fact that I had told them we were unavailable, another cleaning service member opened the door and attempted to enter five minutes later. There is no lock on the door, therefore you cannot lock it from the inside. The following day, the same thing happened—this is the first time I've ever been in such a circumstance. I also chose this hotel because it provided parking, but there were only a few spaces, so I had to leave my car in another expensive parking lot twenty minutes away. Breakfast was terrible: cereal, yogurt, milk, and expired fruit. The carpet in the room was peeling, and concrete was exposed in several areas. The front desk was unfriendly. There was no housekeeping service for guests spending less than five nights. Only the hotel's location was good; everything else was horrible.
Disliked: Only the hotel's location was good; everything else was horrible.
