Overpriced for what you’re getting,...

Liked: Location is great, walking distance to downtown and the beaches.
Disliked: I booked a private double room with private bathroom. The walls were dirty inside the room, the mattress protector had stains all over it. The property is older. I paid $800 for 3 nights, and after seeing the room/property - it’s overpriced.

Grundreinigung dringend notwendig!

Liked: - large terrace - large kitchen- perfect location - no party hostel - lady at the reception was the most friendly one - pool + kicker table- WiFi - lockers in each bedroom
Disliked: Unfortunately, there are only 2 hostels in Kelowna if you are looking for cheap accommodation. The recommendation for both hostels was extremely poor, but I had no other choice when traveling on a low budget. I only chose the HI Kelowna because the overall rating was slightly better and so was the location. I had previously spent a few nights in both the HI Vancouver and the HI Banff. Both are worlds better than this one (cleanliness, events on offer, breakfast is included in the HI Vancouver, really friendly and helpful staff, etc.)The check-in took a really long time compared to other hostels, but you can overlook that. However, the following points cannot be overlooked:- the pillow on my bed had disgusting yellow sweat and mold stains (see photos) - the small shelf was dirty and didn't seem to have been cleaned for a long time- a liquid (cooling water?) leaked in the kitchen and the huge puddle was in front of the fridges for at least 3 days. At least there was a warning sign, but it didn't seem to have been wiped up. - In the refrigerators there were several rotten foods, leaked and already dried liquids and dirty dishes were also in the sinks, despite several hints to wash the used dishes yourself, dry them and put them back on the shelves, this was obviously not done several times (see photos) (however, this is due to the guests. If you use communal kitchens, you have to clean and clear away what you use and get dirty yourself).- Bugs were also running around in the room (see photos)- the air conditioners in the rooms are so loud that you can't get a good night's sleep and apart from that they only seem to cool properly from time to time.- the socket on the bed was provisionally screwed to the wall with screws, but these did not hold and so the socket including screws hung down at the head area- many broken and run-down corners- price per night not justified for the service that is not available.

Deposit

Disliked: I stayed one night and check out early in the morningand they didn't return my deposit $100.I paid by card.they said i have to come back to Kelownaand tap my card to the card payment terminal for the return.Even they didn't explain when I checked in.They just said you have to pay $100 now for the deposit. They insisted that they explained it to me, but they didn't.I asked them, then how to return that customer wants to early check out?Answer is you have to come back after reception open,in the afternoon or nighttime.Does that make sense?because that customer who wants to early check outnormally leave the Kelowna in that time, how can they come back to the hostel for the deposit?I never had accommodation like this before, other hostel was always returned to my cardautomatically after I check out.

Great location but not nice...

Liked: Location and outdoor space. Also the staff were nice.
Disliked: Cleanliness of kitchen. Big flooding/leakage problem. Very hot room despite air conditioner (did not work as it was not very hot outside). Uncomfortable and small bed to share for two people. Very expensive for what you get.
