Safestay Glasgow

My son, who is 20 years old, wanted to treat his sister to her 1st music gig - she was turning 17 on the Saturday! So we decided to book accommodation knowing they’d all be together! It states on your website that someone in the group needs to be over 18, so couldn’t understand why it was an issue for my daughter and her cousin to be allowed to stay, as my son is 20 and his girlfriend is 18? They missed over an hour of the music gig - just really ruined it for them. I booked safe stay cause I’d seen good reviews but sadly won’t use again was very upsetting for all especially me as I was 2hrs away at home and was worried enough at them going then was getting told my daughter and cousin couldn’t stay - staff were very rude!

Liked: Kids said building is lovely and clean.
Disliked: The way my teenage children were treated on arrival.

Liked: Very clean and tidy; lovely rooms and very nice breakfast. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Disliked: No bar.

When we arrived at 4pm (check in was 2pm) we were told that our room wasn't ready. On calling housekeeping, we were then told that it was ready. The receptionist, we found, was quite patronising and not very friendly. When we got to our room, we realised we had a disabled bathroom which obviously wasn't suitable for us and not what we had booked. The bathroom was just a walk in shower and didn't even have a bath. The sink and facilities were obviously lowered for a disabled person but this was inconvenient for us. The radiatior didn't work and the room was freezing when we got there. We had asked for a DVD player which turned out to be a PS2 which kept skipping. The "double room" was actually just two separate single beds joined together which we weren't happy with as this is not what we asked for. We ordered drinks to our room and on arrival, the member of staff missed a drink off our order so had to go back and correct it. Overall, we weren't impressed with our stay and definitely wouldn't stay here again. Just generally disappointed as Best Western are a well known company and I never expected this from them.

Liked: Welcoming personnel, it was clean and easy to get to. Nice enough breakfast.
Disliked: The lockers were too small for my luggage to fit in. I lay in the upper bunk, it would have been really nice if the beds were wall mounted. And the bottom under the mattress was sturdier. The mattress was quite worn.

Avoid this place

Disliked: They are scammers. The rooms are misadvertised, and when you get the confirmation, it comes as a male has booked into a female's dormitory. I was cautious about choosing my room because I knew this would happen, and it did. As I was trying to check in, 3 other guys arrived, and the same happened. I mentioned to the receptionist that forever's 4 guys booked into the female dormitory, and you have now 4 free beds. Why don't you turn the room into a male dormitory? They couldn't do it even though the room was empty, as it was just a female.And I refused to refund the money.

Snug and comfortable

Liked: Location was very convenient for the hop on hop off bus, and not too far from the centre of town. Our room was snug and warm.
Disliked: I appreciate that a hostel style accommodation won't be serviced every day. I do think that if someone does come in to empty bins and replace the coffee mugs, that they could replenish the milk as well.
