Crying out to be what...

Liked: Good disabled parking right by the main entrance. Decent greeting on reception. Room had twin beds as requested with very clean linens. Extremely comfortable beds and good pillows. Good choices at breakfast. Nice staff. Peacocks and rabbits fun and the castle setting very pleasing. Some nice touches of history and sense of the medieval here and there.
Disliked: There was a very long walk to the room and no offer of help with bags made. Had to comandeer a trolley I spotted in reception and trundle it through long corridors. We felt the room should have a bedside cabinet for both guests, tissues and water. There was a very small but fancy free-standing bath (with shower head over) that we found impractical and hard to access. Window frames were rotten and dirty. Ageing windows very hard to shut. Some areas of garden unkempt. The whole place feels like it needs much more TLC. It has excellent potential and is in a good quiet location but areas like the bar, dining room etc very drear and oppressive. Our room was by contrast too clinical with just white and no pictures. Someone with vision needed at the helm.

Liked: The grounds are stunning. Its such a charming and beautiful castle. the staff were fantastic and very accommodating.
Disliked: the castle needs a little TLC but it also kind of adds to its charm. So nothing that I didnt like really :-)
