Budget Beds & Big Vibes in the Heart of Leeds

Modern, no-frills, and right in the middle of the action, Russell Scott Backpackers Hostel is a top pick for music fans looking to stay central without breaking the bank. Located in bustling Lisbon Square, this 3-star hostel is steps away from major city attractions and top Leeds concert venues like the O2 Academy and Leeds Town Hall. With free WiFi, a communal kitchen, and a laid-back vibe, it’s the perfect launchpad for a gig-filled getaway.

Why Concert-goers love it

You can walk to many of Leeds’ biggest music venues in less than 10 minutes — no need to stress about Ubers or buses after the encore. The hostel’s central location means late-night food and transport options are just around the corner. There's a 24-hour front desk if you're checking in late post-show, and the communal lounge offers a chill spot to decompress with fellow fans.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a social, wallet-friendly base
  • Solo travelers chasing bucket-list gigs
  • Couples squeezing in a concert and a city break
  • Fans who want a quieter spot to crash after the noise
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who’d rather spend on tickets than beds

Food and Drink Options

Start your post-party morning with the continental breakfast offered on-site. While there’s no restaurant, the shared kitchen is open for whipping up snacks or meals at odd hours. Being in the city center, you’re surrounded by walkable late-night eateries – from kebab shops to trendy cafés.

Nightlife Options

While the hostel itself doesn’t have a bar, you're only steps away from Leeds' buzzing nightlife. Head out to nearby bars, pubs, and clubs that keep the music going well after the encore, or grab a pint at one of the chill local lounges for a more relaxed vibe.

What People Say

Guests love the central location and the hostel’s friendly staff who are always ready to help. Reviewers also mention the cleanliness of shared spaces and the social atmosphere, making it great for meeting fellow travelers. The value for money is frequently praised.

Areas for Improvement

It’s a hostel, so expect shared bathrooms and basic amenities. Some guests noted that the rooms can be a bit warm in summer and that soundproofing isn’t perfect — so bring earplugs just in case. But for the price and location, most feel it’s a fair trade-off.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a budget-friendly, centrally located base for your next concert in Leeds, Russell Scott Backpackers Hostel hits all the right notes.

Bargain for a comfy bed...

Liked: The cereal and bread left out for us to help ourselves to. Good for a late night snack before sleep and for morning. Also great location even though moved to King Street

Very good

Liked: This was in a great location in the city centre and very close to the train station. There was a bus you could take to the bus station. The kitchen was clean and useable. There was lots of toilets and showers.
Disliked: They were in the process of renovating so had construction things around. The dorm was very small and felt very squished with no space for bags. I didn't love the showers because you couldn't control the temperature or pressure and they were very small.

Creepy.

Liked: Location.
Disliked: When we arrived the manager made it out that it was such an inconvenience for him to check us in. He was rushing us up the stairs because he had to ‘turn the light off’ and exclaimed that he was in the middle of something so had to finish it before checking us in. He was drinking a can of fosters, which we thought was completely inappropriate. He was quite creepy, asking what time we were leaving, what we were doing last night and just questions that didn’t need to be asked. The place is also completely different to the pictures because we got an email saying how we had to be moved to a different place as the original place had been demolished (reviews from 3 months ago also say the same thing). The hostel was a construction site. The toilets hadn’t been fully built yet (exposed wires and panels) and the room wasn’t as we booked it to be. We booked a double bed room and got given a tiny room with just a bunk bed in it. He also lives in the room next to where we slept which made us feel uncomfortable. One of the worst aspects of this place is that the room doesn’t lock from the inside + the manager knows all of the codes to all of the rooms so could very easily have gone into the room in the night. It smelt horrid and the carpet was so dusty. I had a bit of a cough but it’s gone from annoying to bad. There was meant to be a deposit that we had to pay but the manager didn’t take it because we were going to be up so early as he ‘wouldn’t be awake at that time’ but when I went to use the bathroom in the morning, he essentially followed me in there. When we left he was like ‘be safe’. which is such an odd thing to say.
