Life in the attic.... Sadly

Liked: Location was great. 15 min walk to the Pantiles.
Disliked: We were given room 55 which is the top room of the hotel up in the attic. A couple of velux windows you manually opened with a pole to get fresh air. We had a picturesque view of one chimney stack and heard some seagulls but that was it. Bed was uncomfortable, room was very uneven and low beams. One beam in the toilet so low you had to lean back if standing up to avoid banging your head. Photos of a double room are not the same as this attic room and facilities state kettle and tea/coffee maker but we just had a kettle. Paid the same price as the 'show' double room in the website pictures but the rooms are not equitable and I would have felt disappointed if I'd only paid £50 for the night and not the full price I paid. Signs of damp on the ceiling above the bed with stains and decaying plaster. Mould on the ceiling of the shower, missing light bulb, faulty usb sockets etc. Whole hotel looks tired and dated. Glad it was only one night and will obviously not be returning.

A very pleasant stay and...

Liked: Breakfast was excellent.. Lovely room, service and cooked food. The location is excellent - very short distance to a wide choice of shops. Very helpful staff at this hotel.
Disliked: Unfortunately the nearby London Road is noisy at night so makes it difficult to keep windows open.

Disappointing.

Disliked: Was offered an accessible room on the ground floor but on arrival it was on the 1st floor up many stairs. The furnishings, decor and sanitory fittings were old, shabby and dated e.g. khaki WC with white seat. Only a tiny sachet of shower gel provided.

Liked: Very friendly and helpful staff. Good location and very good freshly cooked English breakfast.
Disliked: Only fault the mattress was very soft

Accommodation more than adequate for...

Liked: It was a lovely old property. Parking was free but it was limited. Staff were really helpful in ensuring that alternative parking was arranged.
Disliked: Not being familiar with the location, I was not aware that the property was located on a main road. I think because of the age of the property secondary glazing was not in place. Which made traffic noise overnight a problem. Although everything was clean and very neat. The decor was dated. Although this had no impact on our stay.
