Modern comforts meet classic elegance at the Royal Station Hotel, set in a stunning Grade I listed building in the heart of Newcastle. With traditional architecture, contemporary design, and a location that puts you right in the action, it's an ideal home base for music fans exploring the city's vibrant scene. Just steps from Newcastle's central train and metro station, and a short stroll to the iconic quayside and buzzing nightlife, this hotel blends convenience with charm.

Why Concert-goers love it

If you're heading to a show, this hotel’s unbeatable location makes getting around a breeze. Walk to nearby venues or hop on the metro just minutes from the doorstep. After the show, return to a peaceful room with double-glazed windows that help keep city noise at bay. The 3:00 PM check-in and 11:00 AM check-out give you flexibility to arrive early or sleep in post-show. Plus, the on-site indoor pool and sauna are perfect for winding down after a high-energy night.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a stylish, central base
  • Solo travelers ticking off a dream gig
  • Couples making a weekend of it
  • Fans who want a quieter, relaxing space after the encore
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who don’t want to sacrifice location

Food and Drink Options

While the hotel doesn’t offer 24/7 room service, you’ll find plenty of walkable restaurants and bars nearby that stay open late. The hotel’s own restaurant serves up crowd-pleasing meals, and there’s breakfast available — ideal after a late night out. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite before the gig or refueling the next morning, you’re covered.

Nightlife Options

You’re right in the heart of Newcastle’s nightlife scene. From lively pubs and cocktail lounges to clubs and live music venues, everything is just a few minutes’ walk. Prefer to stay in? The hotel bar offers a more relaxed vibe, with a decent drinks menu to toast the night.

What People Say

Guests rave about the historic charm and central location, with many noting how easy it is to get to gigs and late-night spots. Reviews frequently mention the friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and the convenience of being so close to the train station. The leisure facilities like the pool and sauna are also a big hit.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the decor in certain rooms feels a little dated, though overall comfort is still high. Being so central, a bit of external noise can creep in — but many find it a fair trade for the location.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting classic style, modern comfort, and unbeatable location in Newcastle, the Royal Station Hotel delivers.

Fantastic!! Would definitely stay here...

Liked: The breakfast staff were amazing and Steve Fizzel and Michael Scrachard both went above and beyond showing us where to catch the bus to Town and Moor and what number buses we could get there on, ensuring that both our stay and activities went as smoothly as possible! Nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel so welcome, they were very welcoming, friendly, efficient and are a credit to the hotel!
Disliked: Beautiful old building, what is there to not like about it? Bed very comfortable and lovely room. Would have liked a tea spoon on tea tray to wash and reuse rather than the one wooden stirrer. Didn’t like the dinner menu, I like straightforward basic meals, unfortunately we had to eat out.

Disappointed compared to previous stays.

Disliked: A room with a view that wasn't a dilapidated wall and flat roof. A bed not shoved in a corner.
