Why Concert-goers love it

If you're heading to a show, this hotel’s unbeatable location makes getting around a breeze. Walk to nearby venues or hop on the metro just minutes from the doorstep. After the show, return to a peaceful room with double-glazed windows that help keep city noise at bay. The 3:00 PM check-in and 11:00 AM check-out give you flexibility to arrive early or sleep in post-show. Plus, the on-site indoor pool and sauna are perfect for winding down after a high-energy night.

Food and Drink Options

While the hotel doesn’t offer 24/7 room service, you’ll find plenty of walkable restaurants and bars nearby that stay open late. The hotel’s own restaurant serves up crowd-pleasing meals, and there’s breakfast available — ideal after a late night out. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite before the gig or refueling the next morning, you’re covered.

Nightlife Options

You’re right in the heart of Newcastle’s nightlife scene. From lively pubs and cocktail lounges to clubs and live music venues, everything is just a few minutes’ walk. Prefer to stay in? The hotel bar offers a more relaxed vibe, with a decent drinks menu to toast the night.

What People Say

Guests rave about the historic charm and central location, with many noting how easy it is to get to gigs and late-night spots. Reviews frequently mention the friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and the convenience of being so close to the train station. The leisure facilities like the pool and sauna are also a big hit.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the decor in certain rooms feels a little dated, though overall comfort is still high. Being so central, a bit of external noise can creep in — but many find it a fair trade for the location.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting classic style, modern comfort, and unbeatable location in Newcastle, the Royal Station Hotel delivers.

Disappointing

Liked: Decent location and close to train station
Disliked: Completely overcharged for the standard of the hotel. Understand it’s an old building but a lot of things could be done to improve it. Window being held open with a book, mould on the ceiling, carpet in the room taped over to cover a hole. Breakfast was very basic as well

Exceptional

Liked: Room was spacious and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful... from check-in to room staff. Breakfast was excellent and the hotel is a great location for the city centre and the train station... obviously.

Disliked: The entrance was nice but unfortunately our first room was absolutely filthy I suffer either way ocd I couldn’t even clean my teeth the sink was that bad and the tiles were dirty windows mouldy. The noise the first night from outside was horrendous we missed most of our first day through no sleep then I aired my view at the reception the assistant listened and did give us a new room for our second night but unfortunately the damage had been done and our stay was spoilt.I am putting in a complaint with photo evidence to claim my first night money back

Comfortable stay in central hotel

Liked: Reception area was lovely, reception staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast was good. We could leave our bags after checkout which was great. It was no problem to use spa after checkout. Bed was comfortable, room was big (I did pay extra for superior room). Shower was over a bath but lots of hot water and water pressure was good. Very handy for railway station.
Disliked: The towels were not changed. We only stayed 2 days but it was 29 degrees and we showered 2 or 3 times each day. The towels were too small and needed replaced. The room was a bit tired. The spa area was not 4 star in our opinion. It was noisy at night, I had asked for a quiet room but it was so hot we had to leave windows open, noise perhaps to be expected in central Newcastle.

Perfectly acceptable!

Liked: Staff were lovely and the location couldn't be more perfect. Straight off the train into the hotel. The price I paid was very good as well.
Disliked: Whilst the common areas are beautiful, with Victorian tiled stairs and chandeliers, the rooms leave much to be desired. Very tired and in need of some TLC - I had to prop the windows up with random items as they didn't stay open. They were perfectly passable though for one night - bed was comfy and clean which is the most important thing.

A old grand dame in...

Liked: Large size of the room & the position of the hotel. Its an old hotel but well maintained.
Disliked: Breakfast room ., the staff were very loud both with carrying out their work & also chatting. Drinking beverages @ the service counter in front of customers is not a professional look.
