After the show, return to a peaceful room with double-glazed windows that help keep city noise at bay. The 3:00 PM check-in and 11:00 AM check-out give you flexibility to arrive early or sleep in post-show. Plus, the on-site indoor pool and sauna are perfect for winding down after a high-energy night.

Food and Drink Options

While the hotel doesn’t offer 24/7 room service, you’ll find plenty of walkable restaurants and bars nearby that stay open late. The hotel’s own restaurant serves up crowd-pleasing meals, and there’s breakfast available — ideal after a late night out. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite before the gig or refueling the next morning, you’re covered.

Nightlife Options

You’re right in the heart of Newcastle’s nightlife scene. From lively pubs and cocktail lounges to clubs and live music venues, everything is just a few minutes’ walk. Prefer to stay in? The hotel bar offers a more relaxed vibe, with a decent drinks menu to toast the night.

What People Say

Guests rave about the historic charm and central location, with many noting how easy it is to get to gigs and late-night spots. Reviews frequently mention the friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and the convenience of being so close to the train station. The leisure facilities like the pool and sauna are also a big hit.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the decor in certain rooms feels a little dated, though overall comfort is still high. Being so central, a bit of external noise can creep in — but many find it a fair trade for the location.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting classic style, modern comfort, and unbeatable location in Newcastle, the Royal Station Hotel delivers.

Lovely staff, but that’s about...

Liked: As most have written, the staff are lovely and the reception area very grand.
Disliked: Our room was small, everything smelt like old cigarettes, including the towels and bed linen, and was dated. Broken lights, old beds, dated furniture and the most hideous colour paint.

Great hotel but very disappointed...

Disliked: I was charged twice for the one night stay by mistake upon check in. The manager assured me that the overcharge would be refunded but I have not received this as yet. I have tried calling the hotel but I am on hold and the call drops.

Liked: The location is great and the price is not so bad.Rooms are nice but we had offered an old room with damaged walls and damaged carpet. When we complained the room was changed. No problem
Disliked: An old room was provided with damaged carpet for my tenange kids and room with stains on the wall. When we complained the rooms were changed. That took extra effort from our previous time. We only stayed one night in that hotelWe had organize everything tight and that was no extra time provided for inconvenience like that.

Has great potential

Liked: We have stayed at this hotel a number of times and even though it hasn't got the modern updated appearance of rival hotels it still has its charm!Staff are ALWAYS friendly and welcoming. The foyer and reception is always clean and tidy and lovely to walk into. It's one of our favourites. The restaurant door is right in the foyer. We dined in the restaurant for a celebration meal for my son's graduation and it was absolutely delicious. Faultless. Staff were amazing. Particularly the lady with blonde hair!Breakfast is always amazing... Just please offer more for those of us with allergies and dietary needs
Disliked: We have stayed numerous times and love returning to the hotel but felt a bit disappointed this time. My daughter and I had just been to Glasgow for a Billie Eilish concert and had to travel on a really early train to Newcastle to get to my son's graduation in time. So we didn't check in until later on. We were tired and wanted to wash and relax butI felt the room was incredibly disappointing. We know they are outdated and in desperate need of revamp, and walking around the hotel you can see painters in...BUT in comparison to the other times we have stayed (and the hotel we had just left) the room was drab, dirty looking (it had been cleaned so we know it was clean) and uninviting. The bathroom was the biggest let down.Tiles cracked and grout is broken and black. The taps etc were discoloured. The complimentary shampoo etc was needing wiped down or replaced.... For three of us we had one roll of toilet roll (my parents were in another roll and had three)The carpet is worn. The wall paper is shabby. The curtains are falling down. The little sockets the had are in weird places and are discoloured.Small points but make a massive difference to a guests impression (I know I worked in the business)I know it takes money to do a full hotel up but if a room is in such a poor looking way then don't rent it out and have it as a first to revamp. The floors are really creaky and uneven and we are guessing the guests up above us had the same issue as they woke us up.We also heard their water while they had a shower!Don't get me wrong these are minor things and DO NOT bring the hotel down in its hospitality quality. I would stay here 9/10 but it definitely needs a massive update... And more sockets in the rooms that are near the beds!!! Nightmare!
